Please bring some of your concern about rising energy prices due to government policies home. Government policy is adversely affected our free markets in America and is driving energy costs through the roof. Perhaps you should look into this.
Or perhaps we the people should place sanctions against our government.

After all, by raising the cost of a unit of energy, by whatever means, doesn’t that cause people to take steps to REDUCE their use of it, and become more efficient? And reduce their personal carbon footprint?

Putin is making good on his threat - he actually threatened to cut off ALL gas supplies to the EU (and why they backed down).
The EU is more dependent on Putin than he ever will be on them:

Russia’s public debt ratio is the lowest among major nations.
Compare that with the bankrupt US, $17 trillion in debt, running on money borrowed from China, with bridges collapsing and 44 million citizens on food stamps.

This is what a gas company does. Its within its rights to raise prices. Incidentally, it costs a lot of money to extract gas, refine it and transport it to consumers. If Jay Carney does not like GazProm’s policy, nothing is keeping the West from providing Ukraine with subsidized gas.
And you’re spot in noting we have to failed to develop our own gas resources, thanks to being held hostage to this Administration’s pro-Green and anti-development policies. We criticize the Russians for acting like a strong country. If we see them as an adversary, we should put our own house in order first.

Are you saying that paying farmers to use the winter's supply of home heating propane to dry late green, wet immature corn to produce ethanol to screw up the nation's gasoline supply "adversely affected our free markets in America"?
The EPA is here to HELP us. They are our FRIENDS. It's not THEIR fault that propane was $6 a gallon this winter.
