Madonna has detailed how she was raped not long after she moved to New York City at the age of 19, in a revealing account of her life to date.
In an article for Harper's Bazaar magazine, the singer said she was forced on to the roof of a building at knifepoint and attacked. The first-person account, which accompanied a fashion shoot, spans Madonna's life from growing up in the US midwest and moving away from home, to her marriages and children.
"New York wasn't everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don't know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time," she wrote.

Did you learn a lot with that dual major you got from Swarthmore in Sociology and Feminist Studies?
As Rush Limbaugh said, it takes a lot of schooling to become a liberal.

No, but i have given a lot of thought in training my daughters to avoid rape.
One of them is to not get into compromising situations.
The other one is to avoid moral relativists like you.
Since when she was 19 Madonna still meant the Blessed Mother of Christ, before.
Or they buy in to the psychobabble crap about taking control of their sexuality by being the aggressor.
Madonna certainly moved the musical discourse toward the gutter in her attempt to get attention and sell CDs. Her character is awfully suspect and so was her lifestyle. So it is not beyond the pale to suspect that perhaps it didn't happen at all and she's claiming this for publicity.
It really surprises me that at least 3 freepers jumped to the "you think she deserved it" schtick. I'm not expert on feminist thought but does this come from the "all sex is rape" theory of, was it, Andrea Dworkin?
OK, I buy your argument. But her story as least as presented her is more detailed. She was already famous with her “Like a Virgin” album, was already getting media attention running around in bustiers in public, and milking all this for millions.
So when someone with a background like this claims rape but with no perp we are not beyond reason to wonder whether it really happened or whether the story is more nuanced. As I said multiple times in this thread, no women deserves rape and the perps must be pursued regardless, but it is hard to have pity on Madonna if the incident happened because of her lifestyle. Also, it’s hard to have a lot of pity on her if the rape happened after a night of snorting coke while she is cavorting with unsavory characters, and the dude just naturally assumed he had a night of sex coming, and she was too messed up to put up a fight.
I have two daughters and have spent 20 years telling them that they are responsible for the decisions they make about boys, and men. Bad decisions make for bad situations, bad relationships, bad marriages, and, possibly rape.
If one of my daughters lived like Madonna, taking drugs and living a wild lifestyle, cavorting with bad boys with violent tendencies, and was raped because of her immersion in that lifestyle, I would support full prosecution of the perp but I would kick her a— for being incredibly stupid (and sinful).
And while it might not seem fair, if my other daughter was reading her Bible, knitting in the living room, and drinking warm milk and she was raped, my heart would bleed for her.
Sorry, the situations just aren’t the same.
Thank you! The rape-deniers here are pathetic.
