A recently revealed video shows a Florida woman's bizarre attempts to train a wild alligator she nicknamed Puppy Puppy.
Residents of a senior residence community in Port St. Lucie say they would watch in horror as the unnamed neighbor routinely fed the beast from the edge of a backyard lake and flailed wildly when it came too close.
While they once watched the woman's strange behavior from afar, neighbors say the situation came to a head when the gator scrambled up to a patio hoping to be fed a steak from the grill.
'She would bring food back and forth and feed him and he would hang out there all day with her,' Lynette Miller told WPTV.
Mostly, neighbors said the woman would feed the alligator cereal. But whatever it was, the animal liked it.
'She would yell at him and he would come,' Miller said.
According to Miller, the woman would lull the gator with low tones, until it came too close. When it became aggressive, the woman yelled at the animal.
And video shows she would also kick, flail her legs and scream at the gator if it became aggressive.
It was almost like the gator was her pet, but one capable of ripping her throat out at any moment.
Neighbor Grace LaPlace remembers a particularly bizarre encounter with the woman.

I love pets until they bite my hand off.... Then not so much.
Reminds me of that “Facces of Death” video:
“Someone call about a gator?”
Not only is it against the law, but she will lose her hand or arm before she even perceives the attack. She’s an idiot.
Not that much different from owning a pit bull...
Reptiles have very primitive brains and are incapable of love and compassion unlike say a rat or dog which can. They are never “pets” but merely display animals and biological curiosities.
And this differs from owning a pit bull how?
Teaser to ANIMALPLANET’s upcoming GATOR GIRLS.
Film at 11.
I see stupid people.
Exactly.
We have about an 8 footer living in our waste water pond. Leftovers from out shift dinners go to TeeGrou.
Better never underestimate a gator’s IQ, they will surprise you.
Gators are quite stupid, from what friends in FL tell me. They don’t really have enough brains to conduct complex operations the way mammalian predators do. However, being stupid doesn’t mean they’re not dangerous. They don’t need to be smart, since they’ve already got all the instinctual equipment they need to catch food (coloration, aquatic capability, inescapable bite etc).

It’s from the 1999 movie “Lake Placid.” Let’s go to the video;

Yeah, had a cowboy hat on and was standing up in a rowboat, and "lasooed" the gator. Nothing left but the hat floating on the water.
The Grace Wiley piece was amazing... I never knew. Thanks.
I’ve been up close to them for almost 70 years, best not listen to someone living in a condo. Intelligence can’t be measured across all species using a common yardstick, it comes in too many different packages.
