Corn prices are surging after U.S. farmers said they expect to plant the lowest corn acreage since 2010.

That's because inventories in the world’s biggest grower and exporter jumped 30 percent from a year earlier.

Acreage is estimated to hit 91.691 million, down from 95.365 million a year earlier, according to a survey of more than 84,000 growers released today in Washington, Bloomberg said.

Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg estimated 93.014 million, on average.

Here's how corn reacted to the news:

I got most of my pepper plants in the ground yesterday. By the end of the week I'll have the tomato plants in the ground.

I can't afford store-bought food, so I grow my own, or kill my own.

I’ve grown those before. Very productive. They’re perfectly happy in 16” pots if you have a patio or deck. They’ll grow indoors with the right light. I usually ‘help’ my peppers pollinate with a paintbrush just to make sure.

We have had a very cold winter. This may also be a reason for concern.

I suspect that wheat will be short this year too. Drought and very cold winter.

I am not a commodities trader, but a producer of wheat seed.

I remember when we were fed the line, by congress, that putting ethanol in gasoline would keep gasoline prices low as if nobody, in congress LOL, saw this coming. Higher gasoline prices and higher food prices because of ethanol in gasoline. Action / Reaction syndrome ignored by congress again. congress is outstanding in their stupidity.

“why again do we subsidize farmers?”

Because they give lots of money to Congressmen.

When my company was competing against a company that featured a failed technology called “spray cooling” I was listening to a congressional debate when a senator said, “Well, we have this marvelous spray cooling technology. Why aren’t we using that?” (He was the head of the budget committee and that company had relocated to his state.)

Liberals don’t need manipulation ... they call in their pets in the MSM ... and the rest of them are paid shills on the internet. They get their lies out without a lot of work.

How do you expect to scare people with facts? You'd never make it as a journalist.

The best thing that could happen is to get rid of that Ethanol crap. You'd get better mileage and less vehicle repair expenses. Drill baby, Drill.
