Mark Witaschek never had a firearm in the District of Columbia, but he is now on the citys Gun Offenders Registry.
This bizarre case has drawn national attention because an upstanding citizen was tried and convicted of possessing unregistered ammunition for muzzleloader bullets, which are simply pieces of lead and copper.
On Friday afternoon, I accompanied Mr. Witaschek and his wife, Bonnie, to Metropolitan Police Department headquarters to abide by the terms of his sentence, which meant registering within 48 hours.
Immediately inside the front doors and metal detectors is the Gun Offenders Registry Unit, which has suddenly appeared in the same office space as what was the Firearms Registry Unit. A white piece of paper taped over the existing painted sign indicated the office switch.
They label it gun-offender registry to sound like a sex-offender registry, Mr. Witaschek noted.

I would have moved out of DC and not complied. Let them arrest me in Idaho militia country for FTA.
If it keeps on raining — the levy’s going to break.
The criminals are doing the arresting. Animals are in charge. Never give an inch. Lock and Load. MOLON LABE.
Great example of the complete absurdity of the law and of the government of the District of Columbia

This is a battle between good and evil. FedGov and DCGov are not on the side of good.
He should put forth the David Gregory precident as a defense.
I’m reminded this morning reading this of that old religious hymn that goes in part “shall we gather at the river...........”
The Alinsky way. Make people feel like perverts for even thinking about a gun.
What more can you expect from the District of Criminals?
Never give an inch. Lock and Load. MOLON LABE.

Amen....correct on all points.
I was driving down THE MAIN street in Warrenton VA and saw a sign in front of a Restaurant advertising ‘MOLON LAVE’ Dinner and I was going to make sure I ‘joined’ them as I had arranged a supper meeting in a nearby town for the VCDL (Virginia Citizens Defense League) next month.
Turns out Molon Lave is a local Virginia Winery and I am sure all the Wine and Cheese Tasters would have been titillated had I and some of my comrades (LEGALLY) shown up for the Sunday after noon ‘affair’ exercising our Open Carry Rights..
Doesn’t alway pay to act on first impulse.
Glad R Reagan gave the advice ‘Trust but Verify’.....
Kind of scary. We are quickly dividing into two countries - one with gun rights, and the other without. That is not good. As it is, there are now people that simply WILL NOT live in gun-grabbing states, and that will pull them down economically (not that I care that much...but it’s stupid to have this situation develop).
I don’t know where it will all lead...I just don’t like it.
As for Shall We Gather at the River...always makes me think of this...
District of Corruption.
District of Criminals (the politicians and their henchmen).
So they are calling a hunk of lead “ammunition?”
A muzzleloader isn’t even considered a firearm under the 1968 law. You can buy them online and have them shipped directly to your home without a background check.
Congress needs to defund whatever office that came up with this stupid rule in DC.
Yep.
5.56mm
here in the Peoples Republic of NY, there is no open carry...there is something called a pistol license and it is needed to just OWN a handgun...NY is a “May Issue”. for most it comes as a concealed carry permit(there is also a premise permit which requires you to keep it home when not traveling to and from the gun store for buying/selling), but there are so many caveats(regulated county by county) that I rarely carry in my home county (regulation: carry only on the way and back to the range and to hunting...you may stop to eat or to pick people up)
as I carry to my hunting camp many counties away, I am required to be in control of my handgun. So while I am away I carry all the time. the county I hunt in is a no-caveat carry area. Now NY state law says no open carry. it does not say I can open carry while in the field hunting. My county gave me a written book which says I cannot carry open except when in the field hunting or at a range. So I carry open in these situations. but no one knows what the laws are suppose to be. to carry my 7.5” bbl. redhawk concealed would be near impossible, or at the least very uncomfortable.
I would move in a NY minute....except I cannot get the wife on board as she must be near her mom....
