MILLER: Witaschek surrenders to D.C. police ‘Gun Offenders Registry’

Businessman convicted of having unregistered muzzleloader bullets

By Emily Miller

The Washington Times

Friday, March 28, 2014

Mark Witaschek never had a firearm in the District of Columbia, but he is now on the city’s Gun Offenders Registry.

This bizarre case has drawn national attention because an upstanding citizen was tried and convicted of possessing unregistered ammunition for muzzleloader bullets, which are simply pieces of lead and copper.

On Friday afternoon, I accompanied Mr. Witaschek and his wife, Bonnie, to Metropolitan Police Department headquarters to abide by the terms of his sentence, which meant registering within 48 hours.

Immediately inside the front doors and metal detectors is the Gun Offenders Registry Unit, which has suddenly appeared in the same office space as what was the Firearms Registry Unit. A white piece of paper taped over the existing painted sign indicated the office switch.

“They label it ‘gun-offender registry’ to sound like a sex-offender registry,” Mr. Witaschek noted.

I agree and 20yrs ago the idea might have made sense.

There was a cop who arrested him, a police department who passed this on to the da, a da who saw fit to persecute...er..prosecute him and a judge who agreed and found him guilty.

That is a huge cesspool of mindless stupidity to drain. And the majority of Congress won’t do a damn thing about it.

It WILL come to the absolute refusal to obey these idiots who claim to be “in charge”.

Cop: “What are you doing with these lead bullets?”
American citizen: Those are not lead bullets. They are fishing weights. I’m going fishing.”
Cop: “It’s against the law to shoot fish with lead bullets. You are under arrest!”

here in the Peoples Republic of NY, there is no open carry..
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
I have CC in VA and do not leave home without it.
One of these days I will get ‘nailed’ in DC, MD, NJ, CT or NY ..

Shame where one doesn’t really need it you can’t carry it BUT where you are apt to need it you can’t have it.

Then again when the citizens of a State, City etc figure the guy next to you MAY be armed, the politeness sets in better than when ‘THEY’ know ‘they’ are in a GUN FREE FOR ME AND THEE but not ‘THEM’....

OTOH I don’t appear as a target and my Pickup with VA tags may say ‘something’ to the animals...works in the Metro DC area BUT if the slugs have that figured out the Cops probably do also, just can’t give them ‘Probably Cause’ though that always isn’t a ‘slam dunk’.

How many minie balls for muzzle loaders are in the ground in DC waiting to be found by children or people working in flower beds who will drop them in a jar and become criminals.

I would have told them to stuff it up their azz!

I would flat refuse to register and appeal all the way to the USSC!

Any freaking thing you can stuff down the barrel is ammo for a muzzleloader, including the judges ink pen!

I would tell the black robed commie bastard to arrest himself!

And to think the constitution makes the whole place as the seat of government: To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;-

I wonder how many bullets (not cartridges) could be dropped on the sidewalks of D.C.? What about cardboard cut outs of guns. Civil disobedience can take many forms.

DC police said that it would not be in the public interest to prosecute Gregory.

What public interest could this prosecution serve?

Intimidation of course.

I own three of those I purchased in Williamsburg, Va. I wonder if many people from DC come to williamsburg, buy these souvenirs and don’t know they are violating a clearly illegal D.C. law.

>>We are quickly dividing into two countries - one with gun rights, and the other without. <<

Which brings to mind the question, “Should you shoot someone who is committing violence upon another person?” Normally, I would say yes but these days you may not receive a “Thank you for saving me from a serious beating.” The victim might just get in your face and ask, “Why did you shoot him? I was not afraid for my life. I knew he wasn’t going to kill me.”

Where would you be in Court then?

Well, that dovetails nicely with the next rule. If the person taking the beating is a lib, don’t shoot. You might offend them by shooting as you note, they deserve what they get for fighting to keep the law abiding from having the means of self defense, and their life isn’t worth the price of the ammo nor of your legal defense. If the beat-ee is conservative, none of those issues apply.
