John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have felt the wrath of the Right for spending too much time playing defense

No, Boehner and McConnell have quite understandably incurred our wrath for playing footsie with Harry Reid and doing so surreptitiously.

Republicans now have the opportunity to effectively bring the Obama administration’s legislative program to an early end this November by eliminating the Democrats’ majority in the Senate,

No, to the degree that that can be accomplished under the feckless leadership of Boehner and McConnell it was accomplished by the election of 2010. No one can convince me that if we give McConnell a majority in the Senate he will in fact rollback any legislative initiatives which already been passed, especially including Obamacare!

The differences among us are minor compared with the differences between us and them, which are fundamental.

No, the history of the Bush years when Republicans enjoyed a majority in both houses and the pathetic history of the Obama years convinces many of us that the difference between the Republicans and us conservatives is far greater than the differences between the Republicans and the Democrats.

Unless you are ready to give up entirely on the notion of advancing conservative principles through the ballot box,

No I am not ready to give up the notion of advancing conservatism through the ballot box but that determination is a reflection of hope over experience.

Even if you do not think that it matters much whether Republicans win, it matters a great deal that Democrats lose.

I do not think it matters greatly whether Republicans win or Democrats lose except in the speed at which the Republic will be driven over the cliff. Therefore, I do not place my faith at the ballot box, although prepared to soldier on and do my duty at the ballot box, rather I place my faith in an Article V movement which has a chance of success because it can effectively occur outside Washington.

Why do I get the feeling that this article is being written to paper over the real and substantial differences between the Rinos and conservatives so that the game can go on for yet one more election cycle?

Obama has established arbitrary powers within the executive branch. It is but a short intellectual walk from “if congress doesn't act, I will,” to openly declaring, “My will is law.”

Given the IRS/NSA abuse/surveillance of opponents and enemies, I doubt we'll ever have another non-rat president.

But if we do, he will be armed with the same despotic powers established by Obama.

We have slipped to the very edge of raw authoritarian government.

Presidential elections have become something approaching a courtesy fornication. This thread illustrates the growing and correct perception that our property and freedom depend on the outcome of single election.

No matter who the Uniparty nominates, our choice is limited to someone between the limits of either a good near-dictator or a bad near-dictator.

Let's stop pretending. We must go around the DC Uniparty if we are to possibly restore freedom. Article V.

Agree on your points.

I find their (Republican GOPe stalwarts here) bleats about ‘better than Democrats’ and ‘Republican is the only hope.. [Obi Wan]’ the most advanced case of planned capitulation and surrender ever witnessed on the political scene.

No wonder Boehner, McConnell et al are so oblivious to conservative wishes. When you have a sizeable cadre of so-called conservatives here so willing to give up even before the fight and vote for them because they're ‘better than a Democrat’, Boehner’s and McConnell's trolls here can report back to them ‘no problem’.

Believe it or not, what we say and do here IS filtered up to both sides. Unfortunately, the GOPe uses the mood here and other places to gauge just how much they can capitulate, how much they can give up.

But sometimes, activism here works. Take the recent case of Boehner planning to attend a Florida campaign dinner for anti-tea party types. He's now backed out of that; I believe because of us, conservative media (slim as it is), and other conservative groups.

If all they heard HERE was “GOPe, they're not as evil as Democrats, let's hold our nose and vote for them - again,” we'll still be in the same boat, regardless of conservative votes or not.

IOW, acceptance of GOPe in this day and age is tantamount to being no more than a French Soldier who dropped his unfired Rifle at the Maginot Line or the Ardenne Forrest.
