A mother, who was thrown in jail and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after breastfeeding her baby while drinking, said she didnt know she was possibly breaking the law.
I did drink. I did breastfeed, Tasha Adams told ABC News 20/20 in her first on-camera interview. I didnt know it was illegal. If I knew it was illegal, I wouldnt have done it.
Last week, Chuck Clawson, the deputy city attorney for Conway, Ark., dropped Adams child endangerment charge because there wasnt enough evidence to prove she had one too many drinks to care for her child.
Tune in for the full story on ABC News' "20/20" on Friday, March 28 at 10 p.m. ET
The 28-year-old is a stay-at-home mother to her three children: 6-year-old Cal, 2-year-old Hyd, and 8-month-old Ana. Adams and her family live in Toad Suck, Ark., a small town where alcohol is banned. But unlike Toad Suck, Conway, Ark., is not a dry town.
After the funeral of a family friend, Adams and her parents stopped for dinner at Gusanos Restaurant in Conway. Adams also brought her baby, Ana, because the 6-month-old was still nursing at the time.
We had a pizza, and then we had a big old thing of spinach dip, Adams said. Then, I had a beer with that, and then I had another one later on after.

Toad Suck Ping!!!
There is a lot in this story that sucks.
The government needs to shut up and butt out.
/johnny
Well there is the whole problem. Being from TOAD Suck with a kid sucking on you as your sucking down a brew. The whole thing sucks the big one.
I barley understood the story/sarc.
There is a local hospital that used to provide beer for breast feeding mothers because it helped them relax, hydrate and get certain minerals.
This mother will never be able to take her child to Children’s Hospital in Boston. They’ll take permanent custody of the child, throw her in the psych unit for a year and charge her for for child endangerment.
When my wife breastfed, she was told to drink beer. It would help with let-down reflexes and improve milk production. It did and it does.
Women have been drinking beer for hundreds of years to help with breastfeeding.
We are a totalitarian fascist state.
How much alcohol gets into breast milk and how long does it take? If the milk ends up with the same alcohol percentage as the mother’s blood, then she would be at 0.2 proof when she’s drunk enough to not be allowed to drive.
My doctor prescribed two heavy beers a day while I was nursing. One with lunch, one with dinner. He said that three wouldn’t hurt, but told me not to go past that. (German doctor) I didn’t have that much (because I didn’t like alcohol back then), but I did have one before bed a few times a week.
Beer drinking is recommended on many breastfeeding forums and there’s zero evidence that it’s harmful to the child. There are compounds in beer that may help the let-down reflex. We’re not talking about getting drunk. We’re talking about a couple of beers.
People really need to mind their own business. Everyone thinks that they’re a doctor now days. Worse, they feel that they have the right to butt in to personal situations with impunity.
Had Enough Yet ?
you get one to get it flowing after birth and thats it
Screw that scumbag cop, too. We couldn’t have a nanny state without them as willing accomplices.
Cal Hyd and Ana??
seriously?
I’ve heard Cal and Ana before. Hyd, never.
When my oldest was born the pediatrician actually recommended a small glass of wine or beer to help relax and get things flowing.
What is more of a hazard to a child a mom who has a drink at dinner while breast feeding or one that raises a child without benefit of a father?
I think our population would be about 50% smaller without alcohol.
