President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia called President Obama on Friday to discuss a proposal by Mr. Obama for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis in Ukraine, and the two leaders agreed that diplomats for both countries should meet soon to discuss it, the White House said.

Obama is literally afraid of Putin and I honestly believe fears being alone in the same room with him.
Personally I think it stems from the time Obama was Detained for a few hours in Russia when Obama was a senator.

I believe Putin would call him if he felt he could hoodwink Obama into a deal as bad as the one on Syria.
