The U.S Education Departments Office for Civil Rights has forced a school in Michigan to tear down a brand-new set of bleachers for its boys varsity baseball team because the new seating is nicer than the girls softball bleachers.
The raised seating deck for the boys baseball team, which was paid for with money raised by parents, was put in place because fans whod come to watch games at Plymouth High School in Canton, Mich., were having a hard time seeing the game through the chain-link fence WJBK-TV reported.
The parents installed the new bleachers themselves and even added a new scoreboard to the field, the station reported.
But after an investigation by government officials, which was prompted by an anonymous complaint, the school was told it had to remove the new seating because it was no longer equal to the adjacent girls softball bleachers, which have yet to get a makeover of their own.
Further, government officials said, the new boys bleachers were not sufficiently handicap-accessible.
The school agreed to tear down the new bleachers after government officials issued a citation.

I could see providing some spots for wheeling up wheel chairs and anchoring them. But surely that wouldn’t require removing all the existing seats.
You think it might have been the girls’ softball coach?
I understand my name is misleading. It comes from an old joke about yellowdogs in Oklahoma. That is why I put Mrs. In the line. You r not the first to mistake me for a male....LOL!! No harm done. I hate to argue or have hard feelings. We r all together in our fight. Plus I don’t want to hijack the thread with a silly argument between us. Now that I think about it, it is kinda funny about the bong.....LOL!!!
Why can’t the girls use the baseball field?
Most bleachers I know are moveable....................
12 years, and apparently didn’t realize that a) we’re all anonymous, b) no one knows (or cares) that you’re a lady on a public, highly opinionated forum, and c) that “put down the bong” is rather common vernacular and much nicer than calling someone a dumbass. Perhaps they’re lost.
Hey, don’t pick on my friend! Now I’M offended. LOL!
Baseball and softball are different sports is why. Even when the infield dimensions are the same, a baseball diamond has a mound and a softball diamond does not. When the boys move up to the regulation sized diamond, (90 ft. Base paths), the softball one is always roughly the size of a little league field and two thirds the size.
Visualize waking up tomorrow and learning that overnight, D.C. had been mysteriously converted to a field of daisies. Buildings gone, people gone. Gone like it was never there. Would the public be overall in better hands with a field of daisies? I’m beginning to think so. The daisies would not nag, they would not spy, tax, dictate, bother, threaten, harass, or lie. The daisies would just sit their, looking kind of pretty. It’s a nice dream.
“It’s easy if you try.”
There's the problem right there.
The two high schools nearest me (I attended both- makes for "Who do I root for this Thanksgiving?" moments every fall) each have ramps to a wide first platform that can accommodate wheelchairs.
No good. Not high enough.
Maybe, but not too soon for some tar and feathers!
Actually, they are high enough to be some of the best seats in the stadium!
“Along the same lines as a braille keypad at the drive up ATM machine I would imagine. “
Good lord, tell me you are just making that up.
