Scientists believe they know where MH370 crashed

A research team at University of Western Australia also believes the cabin is in once piece, improving the chances the black box could be found.

Scientists believe they know where Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 crashed into the ocean and that the cabin sank in one piece. The research by the University of Western Australia, using meteorological and ocean-current data alongside the British analysis from data “pings” recorded by UK firm Inmarsat, has determined the point of impact and the movements of debris in the weeks following the crash.

A fresh satellite sighting of 300 floating objects ranging in size from seven to 49 feet about 1,680 miles from Perth in the southern Indian Ocean was reported by Thailand yesterday, tallying with previous sightings by French and Chinese satellites. Thai satellite images show objects about 120 miles from a debris field of 122 objects captured by a French satellite on Sunday.

Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi, the scientist who oversaw the research, said that a failure to spot buoyant objects that originated inside the plane indicated that the cabin probably remained intact as it sank into the sea. This would improve the chances that the black box survived without significant damage in the depths below the crash site.

“I think the way the plane crashed, a lot of the debris has been kept intact inside the plane,” said Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi, from the university’s oceans institute. “If the plane broke up, we should see a lot more debris floating around. We should have seen smaller bits of lifejacket and seats, things which are going to float.”

In addition, I haven’t ever seen it reported that it’s even possible to turn it off.

I found something similar if someone gets into the circuit breakers.

"But the investigation of a 1997 SilkAir flight that crashed in Sumatra, Indonesia, killing 104 people, suggests that scenario is possible. On the SilkAir flight, the cockpit voice recorder stopped working. Investigators suspected, but were unable to confirm, that the circuit breaker for the cockpit voice recorder had been pulled, disabling the device. The official Indonesian accident report never determined the official cause of the accident. But the NTSB concluded in its own report that the crash was the result of one pilot’s suicide." http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/03/140315-malaysian-airlines-flight-370-investigation-plane-crashes

They are now moving the search area 685 miles North East...

They are looking in a different area now based upon a revised fuel burn ratio, more north easterly.

Why does a “scientist” or “professor” need to be involved where anyone with a pair of eyes and discerning mind can do as well or likely betteras he does not carry the ego load.

This is all speculation. This “wreckage” could be anything. There is stuff falling of of merchant ships into the ocean everyday. Go look at some videos at “gcaptain.com” to see container ships breaking up, vehicles flying off decks in bad weather, ship collisions etc.

If the plane hit the water at terminal velocity or under power, the cabin would not have stayed intact. That would be a physical impossibility.

I have read where hitting the water at speed would be like crashing into a concrete wall. The plane would basically explode, as well as any bodies, and the tail would meet the nose at the point of impact in one third of a second.

Generally the pieces of wreckage will sink to the bottom.

The black box is near the tail, and it is made to withstand such impacts.

If this plane hit the ocean, our undersea sonic sound systems or our subs would have picked it up. The sound would have been akin to an explosion, underwater.

Also, anyone who says they know exactly where this plane hit is full of it. Everything we know so far that has not been denied or hedged by the authorities is still open to interpretation to some degree, and is based on certain straight line assumptions—assumptions which generally don;t hold true in the real world.

We have a network of satellites that can track anything in the air.

We know, Malaysia knows and China knows more about what happened then we or they are letting on.

I am amazed at how fast they are all trying to get this off the news.

And we are risking the lives of a lot of brave men, who are sent at in these horrible weather conditions to try to find any wreckage art all. Let’s hope we do not lose any other aircraft.

I suppose if the pilot really wanted to hide the plane, and he was wanting to test himself he might have tried to land it smooth, and let it sink mostly intact...

It sure is a crazy mess of a story however it plays out..

“We know all of that but that doesn’t tell anybody HOW it went down.”
_____________________________________________________
God only knows HOW or why it went down. It now seems most likely that the plane was hijacked, maybe even by one of the pilots. We can list only speculations about the plane as it is now. One is that the fuselage could still be largely intact if there was a controlled crash on land or sea.

Or, a la the smash into the Pentagon on 9/11, it could be long scattered smithereens. Passenger planes aren’t made to be crashworthy.

” a la the smash into the Pentagon “

Yes, that is certainly a controlled crash, but not the type that I an referring to.
A controlled crash is one where the pilot has limited control, such as in a “gear up” landing, or landing with no engine power.

Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger says you can land a jet in water in one piece.

Sully did a controlled landing, at a level attitude to the water.God bless him. He was probably one of the few pilots in the country who could land that plane that way without flipping it. A remarkable feat.

A plane falling from the sky without control is not going to glide to a landing. It is going to head in. Even a flat spin landing would just about destroy the plane on impact.

Although a 777 can fly, it is a heavy beast when no longer airborne.

In 1953, when I was twelve years old and was a newspaper delivery boy, I went down to the train depot every morning to get my shipment of papers for home delivery. During a period of time when there were several crashes of airplanes, the paper would print a picture on the front page of the debris field of the plane, which usually burned after the crash and the cockpit voice and flight recorder were never recovered intact. But I noticed from the pictures that the tail section of the airplane almost always survived the crash and fire with little damage. I then wrote a letter to the Civil Aeronautics Board, which was the precursor to the FAA, suggesting that the black box be placed in the aircraft tail section to improve survival of the recorders. Several years later I received a nice letter from the FAA saying that they adopted my idea. When I was three years old I lived next to an airport in Portland, Maine, and I witnessed a plane crash and fire which killed several people in a trailer park next to the airport.

The amount of speculation surrounding this crash is amazing. I don't remember ever seeing anything like it before.

Most of the rest of current news reflects poorly on Obama. Obamacare and the Ukraine/Russia situation come to mind first and foremost, but I’m sure we can come up with others.

And you wonder why this story continues to play so much?

Very cool story.Good powers of observation.

When I was 12, I delivered newspapers. That was in 1966. I have been working ever since. That first job taught me a lot.

A fresh satellite sighting of 300 floating objects...

So do they have possession of even one verified piece of that aircraft.
