Nearly 100,000 Russian forces have massed on Ukraine's border, a top Ukrainian defense official told an American audience Thursday, giving a number far higher than US military estimates.
"Almost 100,000 soldiers are stationed on the borders of Ukraine and in the direction ... of Kharkiv, Donetsk," Andriy Parubiy, chairman of Ukraine's national security council, said via a webcast from Kiev.
"Russian troops are not in Crimea only, they are along all Ukrainian borders. They're in the south, they're in the east and in the north," Parubiy said.

Much of Ukraine’s military defected to Russia, taking their weapons with them. In fact, Ukrainians could be facing Ukrainian units of the Russian army.

As a fellow sci-fi fan, I award you the following points:
+100 points for the Star Wars quote in a non-Star Wars thread.
+200 points for relevancy.
+200 points for humor.
-500 points for mentioning the “Phantom Menace.”
You must unlearn what you have learned! :-)
I wonder what our military leaders are saying behind closed doors about this? Of course, we’ll never know.
Just after the fall of the Soviet Union happened, I remember a Russian preacher who had a dream of what would happen after the Russian Bear woke back up. He woke up in a sweat. I don’t remember the details. Maybe someone has heard that story?
I know what you mean, FRiend, about the suffering of the Ukrainian people. I deeply feel for them. I really don’t wish evil on them. Any more than I wish evil on us. What I was, in my fit of posting, was just wishing this obscenely arrogant Marxist they elected in 2008 and un-believe-ingly re-elected in 2012 would be exposed to more foolish Americans that in some uncanny way support this destroyer of America. It was just my intense and over 5 years’ frustration with our unfortunate and dire situation.
Zer0 cracks me up. A regional power with equal or more guided missle nukes than we.
Let’s look at the history of the UKRAINE, shall we. When the USSR collapsed, the countries bordering Russia, wanted to separate themselves from the RUSSIAN BEAR. And they did. Unfortunately, in order to do that, they had to disarm. That was the only way they could vote for a separation. The western countries, ie; Nato and Russia agreed. Yep, Russia signed the agreement also. Every body was going to allow all these countries bordering Russia, (THAT WAS PART OF THE OLD USSR) to disarm, before they could become their own country. The Ukraine had the largest amount of ICBMs in their borders, that they had to get rid of, which they did. Because of the promise by western countries (NATO) and the new RUSSIA. Now that the NEW Russia has gotten back it’s POWER, all they had to do is renege on the promise. Which they are now doing.
Don’t worry we just sent Ukraine lots of rations they can capture.
We can only pray that Russia will rescue Ukrainian people who want to escape the misery of Nazi IMF held areas.
