The City Council has proposed a bill that would require grocery and other retail shops to charge customers ten cents for the privilege of bringing their purchases home in a new paper or plastic bag. (Proceeds from the fee would go back to the store owners.) The plan, which is currently endorsed by 19 council members (it needs 26 votes to pass), is intended to encourage people to bring their own reusable bags....

This idea has been around for a while. Pretty sure somewhere it has already been adopted.
Now, can we go over again how germs are spreading more thanks to those damn DIY bags?
What all this is is ultimately less expense for the stores, and more germs.
I despise people acting like slaves and bringing in their dirty bags. No - I go out, I expect some service. It’s not bad enough I have to walk all over and pick out groceries. I have to code it myself (the “high-tech” crud) and carry bags in and out and have them take room in the cart?
Dallas passed a 5 cent charge yesterday.
The sheeple never challenge these type regulations.
Years ago, I would visit NYC a few times a year. That stopped awhile back and I now make it a point to religiously NOT step foot into that place. I may not spend much there, but I don’t want to give them even a ingle dime.
The bottle bill NYS passed in 1980s is a much bigger pain in the neck.
Having to lug a bunch of used bottles to a store to get your $$$ back is annoying, and some stores dont want them back.
New York stays crazy, and I, for one, avoid travelling within a 500 mile radius of crazy.
Just smuggle your own black market disposable plastic bags. Well, unless the mafia is in control of that business.
NYC is a Balkan-ized city, you know the lib praises about how immigration and diversity is so great.
Libs love a Balkan-ized population because they are easier to rule politically, they are nearly impossible to unite in opposition. (its not impossible but very difficult)
What’s the deal with these bags? Pollution hazards? I rarely see them on the side of any roads. Maybe using too much petro by-products to produce them? You have to ask because the government almost never honest eith us anymore nd always seems to have hidden agendas usully invomving profit or soaking the taxpayers for more in mind
You know they could just make it voluntary to turn your bags in without charging everyone for it. They would get hundreds from little old ladies alone each...: )
Dallas passed a 5 cent charge yesterday.”
I think Austin City Council passed one sometime ago. Where are all these loons coming from.
Re-using bags for food products is unhygienic.
It will lead to food poisoning and illness.
Remember... it was the libtards who insisted on everyone using these plastic bags, as paper grocery bags were depleting the Erf’s resources, despite the fact that paper is recyclable and trees are a renewable resource. Now, 20 years later after everyone forgets that those POS scum insisted on the change, the libtards bemoan the use of those very same bags. It is extremely demoralizing how these scumbag are allowed to continue wreaking havoc on this country with impunity.
“... black market disposable plastic bags..”
In Monkey County, Maryland.. there is a five cent charge per bag (paper or plastic). I first used the reusable ones till three of us got a stomach ailment. Then I went to Ebay. I purchased a 1,000 plastic bags nicely contained in a small box. Saves me $, no stomach illnesses and I reuse them in small trash cans. Ha ha, Monkey County!
Ten cents isn't right. They should have to pay $10.
So, the city council is mandating money for the grocery stores? Next, they’ll have a surcharge for lights in the store. They deserve de Blasio.
I don’t know either and like you, I rarely see them discarded, blowing about roads or city streets.
The only claim I hear is that they aren’t biodegradable and are thus clogging up the city dumps and worse, are ending up out at sea where they claim there are huge islands of plastic bags and plastic trash that’s hurting the fish and dolphin populations. But, like you, I don’t know if these reports are true or made up.
Its really strange. I’ve wondered if the truth is that the Liberals are always looking for ways to inconvenience “consumption” and have come to believe that forcing people to bring in their own reusable bags will discourage shoppers from buying as much as they might otherwise do.
I think the liberal’s version of truth us whatever they think they can use to foster an illusion to create the type of “reality” that will support their political agendas. Masters of deception or simply liars.
