ObamaCare Delay Number 38

HHS simply waves away the March 31 enrollment deadline. March 26, 2014 7:23 p.m. ET

Liberals say they believe in a living Constitution, and apparently they think the Affordable Care Act is a living document too. Amid one more last-minute regulatory delay, number 38 at last count, the mandate forcing nuns to sponsor birth control is more or less the only part of ObamaCare that is still intact.

On Tuesday evening, the Health and Human Services Department announced that the six-month open enrollment period for ObamaCare insurance that began in October 2013 and was supposed to end on the last day of March would be extended indefinitely. As long as people self-attest and check a box that they had some difficulty signing up on with the 36 federal insurance exchanges, the deadline will no longer obtain.

This delay is particularly notable because HHS factotums denied up and down that it was ever the remotest possibility and even that the agency lacked any legal basis to do so. The statute directed HHS to declare an enrollment period by June 2012 and provided for no ex post facto rewrites.

HHS spokeswoman Julie Bataille told reporters on a March 10 conference call that, "We have no plans to extend the open enrollment period. In fact, we don't actually have the statutory authority to extend the open enrollment period in 2014." Texas Republican Kevin Brady asked HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a March 12 House Ways and Means hearing "Are you going to delay the open enrollment beyond March 31?" She replied categorically, "No, sir" and "There is no delay beyond March 31."

What a difference two weeks makes. Any time Ms. Sebelius assures Congress or the public that something won't happen, a solid bet is that it will.

I didn’t realize someone was counting. May we count to infinity while waiting for this monster.

I notice most of us don’t even bother to respond anymore because nobody will do anything about this violation of the law.

If this ObamaCare thing is so darned great, as we have constantly been told...Why do the creators keep delaying the delivery of this incredible gift?

They keep telling us how wonderful our lives will be under ObamaCare...but then they keep taking it away.

Seems like if they had something so wonderful, they would insist that everyone get it now!

Could it be that they delay, because the reality of O’Care it is going to hurt much more than it helps? And that would impact Dem-Rat electoral prospects....

A Baltimore Congressman, Elijah Cummings, - of Darryl Issa’s committee fame - is going to have a Health Care Enrollment Fair at the downtown Convention Center on Saturday March 29th. He said that there will be about ONE HUNDRED navigators there to help get people enrolled. I wish I could be there to witness the throngs who will flood the doors! Not! Where have they found 100 navigators? Public school teachers on overtime, perhaps? If each navigator handles one client per hour that would be 1000 enrollees.

I wonder if the Sunpaper will report how many attended and how many got enrolled? Silly question!

What I really want to know is how much are ‘navigators’ getting paid. What budget is paying for this “Fair.”

I also see a navigator at the library every time I go, and assume that every library in Maryland has a paid ‘navigator’ for every hour it is open. What a colossal waste of money.

I also wonder what the vacation totals are from 2008 to now.

Just normalizing the lawless condition of “laws” being changed in the blink of an eye and/or made up on the spot. What rule of law? Gone. Citizens are shoved to the ground and handcuffed for being nothing but easy pickins for twitchy JBTs. I’d say that the gulags are not that far off, but this bunch likely won’t bother with them.

How long before the beast decides to “suddenly” become enraged because people are *freely* ignoring the individual mandate? Thug.gov is capricious, vindictive, cruel, malevolent, and ruthless. And that’s on a good day.
