The three fifths rule was not given to the south. This has always been misrepresented and some sort of disrespect to blacks when in fact it was a way to help them....yes, help them!!!

The north feared that if slaves were counted toward population, the south would have more representatives and therefore more voting power in congress and, by extension, more power to keep slavery in place. As a way to protect the slaves, the north initially insisted that slaves not be counted at all, but eventually compromised at 3/5 a person. You see?....less people in the south means less votes in the congress which means less power to dominate the north. Get it? Read your history!!!!!!

I knew that. The north didn’t want to count at all, the south wanted to count slaves so they could have more representation. The south wasn’t even going to agree to be a part of the union until they were given some representation by the slaves and that is how the 3/5th’s compromise was agree upon. I believe I posted something to that effect so don’t understand your comment “read your history”. So many armchair teachers on this thread. I read history constantly, and especially now that I have all this homework.
