The United Nations will officially warn that growing crops to make green biofuel harms the environment and drives up food prices, The Telegraph can disclose.
A leaked draft of a UN report condemns the widespread use of biofuels made from crops as a replacement for petrol and diesel. It says that biofuels, rather than combating the effects of global warming, could make them worse.

Duh! Takes tax subsidies and government edicts to keep this do gooder hoax jammed down our throats. Vote it out of existence.
I have been opposed to ethanol from the start. I just don’t like the idea of having the production of fuel compete with the production of bourbon.

Nobody has yet to die for a gallon of ethanol...

Even though farming has become much more profitable in recent years (2014 may be the turnaround), very few farmers have enough money to play the markets. Most use futures markets as a required tool for marketing their crops.
Using futures as a tool is very different than playing the market, as the contracts are based on actual crop in the bin, or the estimated actual crop to be harvested.
Your farmer friend may be one of the few very wealthy who can afford to lose money in the commodity markets.
Iowa does not have a presidential primary, only a casual, non-binding preference poll during local party meetings. No candidate gets anything for winning that straw vote.
Of course it’s a bad idea, but the market should decide that, not the UN.
“..Ive been wondering for some time why this stuff isnt being harvested.”
The EPA & a half dozen other federal agencies are just waiting for someone to try.
Yep... I’m having to rethink everything now... LOL
Death to bio-fuel promoters!!! Earf destroyers must die.
;^)
No S*_¥ Sherlock
That’s been the aurgument about ethanol bio-crap from the start!
Oh wait, is this satire?!/S
No candidate gets anything for winning that straw vote.
You’re correct. It’s not a primary. It’s a caucus.
The candidates do get something out of winning the Iowa causus. They win there and their candidacy gains momentum. Iowa and New Hampshire have more say about who our presidential nominees are going to be than any other states. In fact, it is usually long decided before I ever get a chance to cast my vote.

Do you mean as “better not or you will be arrested”? Or, as “good, we encourage you to do this”?
We’ve been pointing this out for years here at Free Republic. Glad to see the UN catching up.
“Do you mean as better not or you will be arrested? Or, as good, we encourage you to do this?”
I mean as “better not or you will be arrested”. I’m sure the enviros have identified some endangered plankton out there.

You’re probably right. Those whack jobs won’t be satisfied till we are all riding bicycles and using outhouses. Wish we would regain both houses with bullet proof majorities and get POTUS too. And dissolve the EPA. But, guess I’m smoking rope, metaphorically speaking, lol !
So, based on what kind of fake hype the MSM indulges in, Iowa neighborhood meetings should be cancelled? Maybe the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson should be prevented from making campaign contributions because there’s plenty of fake hype there too.
Let’s just go to a single-day nationwide primary where no candidate without $20 million before the process starts has a chance to be heard. That’ll show those GOP-Eers!
Exactly. We need to be consistent. It is government intervention that causes the problem. The market kills bad ideas pretty quickly and effectively. If a bad idea can be fixed and improved the market does that as well.
Correct. Scarcity is the steady state of nature. Human beings solve that via free market transactions. Shortages are caused by government.
Yes. We know. We brought that up when idiots first started talking about using food for fuel.
Does no one value common sense any more?
