Egypt court sentences 528 Morsi supporters to death

A court in Egypt has sentenced to death 528 supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

They were convicted of charges including murdering a policeman and attacks on people and property.

The group is among some 1,200 Muslim Brotherhood supporters on trial, including senior members.

Authorities have cracked down harshly on Islamists since Mr Morsi was removed by the military in July. Hundreds have been killed and thousands arrested.

They are expected to appeal.

The verdict now goes to Egypt's supreme religious authority, the Grand Mufti (a senior Islamic scholar), for approval or rejection, says the BBC's Orla Guerin in Cairo.

Campaigners say that while death sentences are often handed down in Egypt, few have been carried out in recent years.

The final trial session will not be held until 28 April. so there is some time left before the sentence is confirmed and there will be time to appeal in that period, our correspondent adds

Looks like Egypt is serious about getting this problem under control. A lot of people were murdered by the Soros/US-sponsored muzzie takeover of Egypt.

Whoa - those boys are playing for keeps, which is all that islamists understand.

Soros and the US had little to do with it-- the Muslim Brotherhood has been active in Egypt since the 1920's.

Not everything that happens in other countries is under US control.

I hasten to add that I can't think of a bunch more deserving of the noose, except perhaps for the Democratic party here.

I wonder of Nic Robertson, of CNN (Tahrir square fame) will be there to find Egyptians swooning over Obama and his brilliant leadership on the world stage.

“The view from here is one of very happy to now hear that President Obama has swung behind the people.” _Nic Robertson, CNN, Tahrir Square 2011, Egyptian ouster of Mubarek.

The US-Based NGO’s financed the revolutionaries, and Mubarak was an impediment to The Obama Administrations plan for a “Greater Middle East” that isolates Isreal. (more recently rebranded to the milder-sounding “New Middle East.)

Mubarak was staunchly opposed to Obama policies on Iran and how to deal with its nuclear program, on Obama policies towards the Persian Gulf states, to Syria and to Lebanon as well as to the Palestinians.

He was a formidable thorn in the larger Radical Liberal agenda for the entire region. he had to be removed for the agenda of the Radical Islamists around Obama to go forward.

Oh no...
That was a previous Current Truth, that is different from the new, newer, newest current truth, that is Obama and the US had nothing to do with Mubarak’s overthrow, no matter much credit they took for it.

And anyone who doesn’t agree is simply a racist, that hates the idea of a black president.

Consider this an experiment in the effectiveness of different Rules of Engagement. The US (and allies) used the kid gloves in Iraq (to win hearts and minds); Egypt is using the iron fist. The World Policeman is busy just now, having a donut. The Egyptians have a free hand — and it seems they prefer to use it as an iron-clad fist.

I don’t agree with the death penalty simply for a different political belief.

Nor do I. If you read the second line of the story, you'll see that the Egyptian courts didn't pass the sentences for political beliefs — they passed them for actions.

“A court in Egypt has sentenced to death 528 supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

They were convicted of charges including murdering a policeman and attacks on people and property.”

If only the BBC and its allies wrote similar headlines concerning the killing of Christians.
