U.S. Sends Osprey Aircraft, More Special Forces to Uganda to Hunt Warlord Joseph Kony
The Washington Post ^ | Sunday, March 23, 2014 | Karen DeYoung

President Obama has ordered a sharp increase in U.S. Special Forces deployed to Uganda and sent U.S. military aircraft there for the first time in the ongoing effort to hunt down warlord Joseph Kony across a broad swath of central Africa.

At least four CV-22 Osprey aircraft will arrive in Uganda by midweek, along with refueling aircraft and about 150 Air Force Special Forces and other airmen to fly and maintain the planes, according to Amanda Dory, deputy assistant secretary of defense for African affairs.

LRA attacks have decreased significantly and the number of people killed has dropped more than 75 percent since 2010, said Grant Harris, a special assistant to Obama and senior African affairs director for the National Security Council.

Ensuring justice and accountability for human rights violators like the LRA and protecting” the rights of gay and transgendered persons “are not mutually exclusive,” Harris said.

He said the administration has already moved to shift funding away from partners “whose actions don’t reflect” U.S. values, including $6.4 million that had been designated for the Interreligious Council of Uganda, which has supported the legislation.

A planned survey of key populations at risk for HIV, to be jointly conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Uganda University, has also been suspended because “we think proceeding could cause danger to staff and respondents,” Harris said.

He said that approximately $3 million in tourism and biodiversity promotion programs has been transferred from the Ugandan government to nongovernmental organizations. The Pentagon has also shifted regional military conferences that were to be held in Uganda to other locations.

“We are continuing to look at additional steps we might take,” Harris said, and “continue to urge Uganda to repeal the law.”

Obama and the other homosexuals are mad at Uganda for legislating against homosexuality.

Therefore, they are “hunting down” a nobody in hopes that the act of hunting him makes him a name again. Then someone will fund him, and he will be a thorn in Uganda’s side planted by none other than the bully who sounds so innocent proclaiming the “hunt” for him.

It’s like totally the stupid variety of commercials. The idea is name recognition. They don’t care if the commercials strike you badly. That’s what they want.

Thanks for the ping. I don't think we should be involved.

For those who need a quick primer the LRA is a murderous death cult who at times claim to be Christian and at times don't. They began in Uganda but move between Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic (CAR) and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They are supported by the government of Sudan.

They don't die easily. In 2006 the UN sent Guatemalan special forces in DRC who were experienced jungle fighters. The Guatemalans lost eight soldiers in an ambush and pulled out of the country.

In 2011 the US sent in 100 “advisers” based in the city of Obo in south eastern CAR. This gave them a central location to operate in all four countries. This mission was approved by Congress overwhelmingly.

In 2013 Muslim rebels overran the capital of CAR throwing the country into chaos and leaving our troops in limbo. The pentagon was none too clear on if they were still in CAR or had moved to Uganda or elsewhere.

Recently South Sudan had teetered on the brink of plunging back into civil war. This gives Kony and his men another country where they can operate with almost no chance of detection because the government can't spend any time or resources looking for them.

"Why should US taxpayers care about a Ugandan warlord?"

Are our blood and treasure there to find Joseph Kony or does the War Lord provide cover for the real reason "Ensuring justice and accountability for human rights violators like the LRA and protecting” the rights of gay and transgendered persons..."

You’ve got to put your Washington Thinking Cap on.

Think: Headlines

Think: Mission Accomplished

I mean so far Obama’s got an unmatched record of getting things done in the 3rd World that no US President can hope to compete with. Even Carter and LBJ seem competent and apolitical when compared with the One.

Yep. The murderers in the LRA are killing Muslims, and have no tolerance for homosexuals. Notice there is no help being given to the Christians being killed by Muslims in the same country. This is a one sided venture aimed at protecting Muslims and homosexuals.

Thanks for the info. Read about half of it. Looks fairly balanced but we are only hearing one side of it which is usually the case.
