Quoting unnamed administration officials, CNN host Jake Tapper revealed that the White House is concerned that Russia could invade South and East Ukraine possibly as soon as this weekend. He said that, in spite of Russias assurances that the large numbers of troops and military equipment amassed along the Ukrainian border are there merely for training exercises, the White House believes that Moscow could be planning a broader incursion into Ukraine.
There is now real apprehension that Vladimir Putin could push even further into Ukraine, perhaps as soon as this weekend, Tapper said. He quoted anonymous administration officials who are concerned that the Russians are not being honest when they claim that the troops stationed along the Ukrainian border are not preparing for an invasion.
Russian officials have assured the administration that they are only conducting military exercises. But, Obama administration officials have received intelligence suggesting there is reason to be skeptical of Russias claims,Tapper continued, and that Russia, as soon as in the coming days, could use any number of pretexts to justify pushing its military incursions deeper into Ukraine.
The CNN host added that such an invasion could be carried out by Russia so quickly that Western nations would barely have the opportunity to raise objections over it.

Isolationist, yet your FR name is 1066.
lmfao
It seems pretty obvious from some of the subtle slips in grammar, but it would be nice if they would just admit it up front.
Not gonna hapen, it’s in the Russian and Serbian culture to lie, among other nasty things....genocide...invading countries, etc.
Nope. Not an isolationist at all, just a realist.
Then George $oreA$$ put his hand puppet into action.
"We're really not pro-Putin.
"Tell me, where have most everyone here on Free Republic been getting their news about the Ukraine situation from? Is this is the same media that we detest for skewing coverage of events by not covering certain stories that don't fit their worldview?
'Edited' since I'm a new comer to FR: "Yeah, I joined in 2000 so I could push stories that were pro-Putin. We had it all planned out for 14 years."
Sorry “trooper”, even though I agree with your sentiment, you have 2 choices...separate or follow orders.
“I wonder if it is too late for the Ukrainian people to back out of the EU deal? They are going to be furious when they get their IMF haircut on their bank accounts and large increase in energy costs. Plus when they find out about the EU/IMF imposed regulations that have been estimated to cost billions of dollars to implement. Oh, we have no money? Thats OK, well loan it to you.
They should take it from those who have first hand experience with the EU.
After the EU and George $oreA$$ Greece and Cyprus the Ukrainians for a few years, they will be begging the Russians to take them back.
“Its not our fight, its past time to let Europe fix its own messes”
You don’t like the label “isolationist”, but your belief is such.
Same attitudes that got us bombed at Pearl Harbor and NYC.
At what point would you have gone in against Nazi Germany, that is without the benefit of hindsight?
Obama talks big when pushing Honsni Mubarack and Mohamar Kadaffi around. But when it comes to real politik, Obama is a fold and run president. He can’t run with the big boys, and NATO will not go on any further adventure after Obama’s grift with the Libya fiasco.
Obama has come to a dead end internationally, and Putin will do exactly what he wants. No one can or will stop him.
This is the world legacy of Hopey / Changey Barack Obama, winner of the Neville Chamberlain version of the Nobel Peace Prize......a re-ignited cold war and millions of deaths in central Europe , the levant, North Africa and the Middle east..
Excerpt Obama’s Cairo speech , which transfixed liberal poofters internationally, creating the present US foreign policy debacle:
” For human history has often been a record of nations and tribes — and, yes, religions — subjugating one another in pursuit of their own interests. Yet in this new age, such attitudes are self-defeating. Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail. So whatever we think of the past, we must not be prisoners to it. Our problems must be dealt with through partnership; our progress must be shared.”
There is no “new age”. We have either a fool or a traitor in the White House.Take your pick.
But...but...golf and sex with favorite caddy! Can’t he start a world war on Monday?!
No comparison.
US has protected Europe since the end of WW2 to the extent that, with few exceptions, they spent their $$ on social programs because Uncle Sam was paying for (most of) the defence costs. Now their societies are able to afford to defend themselves (if they want to ) so let them take the lead for a change, it’s their back yard after all.
What you've got imo is a marxist to whom a bunch of other marxists have given a Nobel Peace Prize in advance for something that he's trying his best to do; destroy the private enterprise system and promote mohammadanism.
Its interesting to watch Obama be pilloried in NATO Europe. They have his number, and so I do not think they will be listening to the US Marxist clown president very much.
Obama’s Arab Spring expansionist “new age” African wet dreams in Libya, Egypt and Syria have invoked Russian expansionism. Vlad the Shirtless is art imitating garbage, showing Obama and NATO “how its done,” so far without firing any more than 2 rifle shots in Sevastapool.
BTW, the world now knows justy how much garbage Oz has in the South Western ocean off shore....eeeeeeewwwwwWWWWW! ( LOL).New Zealand is SO ashamed! :-)
