holy crap. You’re right. The comments are disgraceful. They act as if the victim and victim’s family are the ones being ridiculous.
They scoff that this 17 yr old girl is called a “child” and that she should darn well be having sex by now, like it or not!
Keep this up and that age will drop like a stone, the age of consent in pervert land japan is 12, and kiddie porn is legal
The slope has a big drop off
I couldn’t find in that article whether it is a girl or a boy.
in NY the age of consent is 17 in many states 16. most states are 16 or 17. sounds like these 2 were in the wrong state.
isn’t Oregon the state where beastiality is allowed???
I sure scoffed, as did virtually all my fellow Freepers, when 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was called a "child" by the media, his racist enablers and the prosecutors in the courtroom.
17 years old is NOT a child. And personally, I don't consider a 17-year-old girl too young to have consensual sex, although I understand that the law generally doesn't recognize a right to consent until someone is 18.

We are so screwed up as a society that we consider a 17 year a precious little child and our culture infantalizes the young adults up to the their 30’s and we baby them even then...
Back in the 1800’s a 17 year old was already married and was working on starting a family and building a homestead.
We keep pushing back adulthood further and further until you won’t be considered an adult until you are 50 years old....
I blame the education system and media, in terms of toughness and grit I would put a 16 year old man on the 1800’s against a 24 year old college child from our era any day of the week.
The reality is mentally the 17 year old girl is still a child because too many people have listened to Dr. Spock’s horrible advise and we don’t expect our children to grow up in this day and age.
