KEIZER, Ore. – Keizer police arrested a husband and wife on sex abuse charges after investigators learned the couple had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old.
The three were Marion County Search and Rescue volunteers, according to the sheriff’s office.

I found other articles, it was a girl. The additional charges stem from child porn, so my guess is they were making videos and more of them were girl on girl action than otherwise.
in NY the age of consent is 17 in many states 16. most states are 16 or 17. sounds like these 2 were in the wrong state.

There are plenty of people right here on FR, who if this were an attractive teacher and a 17 year old boy, would be commenting “not guilty”.
BUT, what did their volunteer activities as "rescuers" have to do with anything? Was the teen someone they had "rescued"?
Of late, I see "journalists" trying to "hang a label on" offenders -- especially if they can identify them with some group they want to smear by association.
I sure scoffed, as did virtually all my fellow Freepers, when 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was called a "child" by the media, his racist enablers and the prosecutors in the courtroom.
17 years old is NOT a child. And personally, I don't consider a 17-year-old girl too young to have consensual sex, although I understand that the law generally doesn't recognize a right to consent until someone is 18.
Well, unfortunately the Pacific Northwest is noted for endemic levels of perversion. Sadly it doesn’t surprise me much to find a whole bunch of locals passionately defending a ménage à trois involving a high-schooler.
I’ve been over most of this nation, and I have never seen the level of WEIRD that I have through Oregon and Washington. The wet-sides of those two states are, well, odd.

Interesting historical factoid.
Prior to the late 19th century in USA, age of consent in most states was 10, with a few at 12 and I believe at least one at 8.

I also think it is ludicrous to classify a 17 year old as a child in this context.
I am fine with the law and the charges, but we should recognize that the age is a legalism and doesn’t reflect any greater harm likely to the “victim” than if she were six months older.
Though you’d think the morons charged would know that and find someone a tad older to get perverted with.
It should be noted that Japan is very weird.
Here we dress up six year old little girls like they’re 20 and have them strut around on stage like strippers.
In Japan they have 40 year old women dressing up like junior high school girls to get male attention.
