KIEV, Ukraine In an effort to stabilize Ukraine and extend its authority, the interim government has set a deadline of Friday for turning in the illegal firearms that are now carried openly by so-called self-defense groups in Independence Square, the politically important plaza in the center of the capital.
The order was seconded on Thursday by the French ambassador to Ukraine, Alain Rémy, who said the disarmament of the militias that helped overthrow the former government is a central requirement for the European Union to begin disbursing financial aid, along with the government fighting corruption.
Prime Minister Arseniy P. Yatsenyuk, who was a staunch supporter of the protesters but never condoned violent tactics, set the deadline for Friday, the day Ukraine is scheduled to sign the political articles of an association agreement with the European Union.

There’s no good guys in this, but Russia is, at the very minimum, behaving like a sane country.
Molon Labe was my first thought as I read the headline. I wonder how you say that in Ukranian?
This sure won’t be a wake-up call for the rest of Europe. Europeans have been completely disarmed for decades.
You’re right about that.
Приходьте і отримаєте їх!
Youre right about that.
Further -- what with the behavior of Europe and America -- acting sane is enough.
I hope everyone can now see that the US and the EU ARE forming the New World Order. They will take the guns because they are going to be as bad or worse than the Old Soviets.
They are taking advantage of Ukranians.
Pathetic.
First, Russia is opposing the New World Order of Obama/EU/Soros, hence the demonization of Russia in the media.
Second, the EU/US used these neo-Nazis to overthrow the freely-elected (albeit corrupt) prior Ukrainian government. These guys were the foot soldiers. They are not giving up their guns or the ones they seized from the armories.
Third, the EU/US have broken Ukraine and won’t be able to fix it.
Then, the powers that be that wanted regime change to go their way, want the power to be theirs, not the group that did the dirty work. In Libya, the violent groups aren't going easily. Remember NATO voted for airstrikes "so the protestors could go home peacefully" and then used that to oust Khaddafi when the protests failed? In Egypt, it took the military to clean up the mess when the Muslim Brotherhood gained control of the gov and over-reached. In Syria, those intent on violent coup won't stop, even if they level the country.
And now, same playbook. The thugs staged a violent coup (those burning tires are something that would've gotten them shot in any US city except a few crazier ones) and the puppet government is saying they should just hand in their guns, go back home, and oh by the way be exploited by globalist bankers and power brokers.
Should it concern us? Of course. Our troops belong on our southern border and the invaders need to be sent home before someone sees advantage in having their protests go violent.
Thanks Laz, you command a wealth of information!
History can be a harsh teacher.
With Russia breathing down their necks and no help coming from the EU, its time to arm everyone and hope for the best.
Taking their guns? Wait until they get their gas bills. They can use the IMF loan to pay Russia for their overdue gas bill.
Since the lease deal for the Crimean port is no longer needed, Ukraine loses the discount that was part of the deal. 40% increase on NG. Back to paying full market rates.
The EU has now made financial aid contingent on the Ukrainians surrendering the means by which they secured their freedom in the first place. The EU has to my knowledge offered no military assistance to Ukraine so without the militias Ukraine is dependent upon their thoroughly infiltrated, Russian trained military which I doubt would stand for more than a few hours against a Russian invasion.
What has happened is this: freedom has broken out and the first reaction of the Western "Powers" is to try to dial it back. The EU wants Ukraine under Russian control in order to preserve the status quo.

The Ukrainians are worried. Putin’s fag army is loose inside the country and laying land mines. It’s only a matter time before some Ukrainian patriots start shooting at them. That’s why the government mistakenly trying a gun grab.
There is no legal private gun ownership in the Russian Federation at all, except for hunters or BB guns.
Yes, the goose stepping EU disarming the militias. Part of living in a free society? Really sucks to fight for your freedom then get disarmed. Typical leftists.

Why would self-defense *not* be the same thing as fighting “corruption”? The foot-shooting continues. Thanks JimRob.
Gun confiscation is one of the things that happens when you have Globalist Bankster stooges like Yatsenyuk in charge. The Banksters used these Kiev 'protestors' as pawns to overthrow the Ukraine government just like they used Al Qaeda in Libya and Syria. Suckers.
Wait until the Banksters start taking the Ukrainian's bank accounts and natural resources. The Ukrainian people will beg the Russians to come in.
