The day before the Iowa caucuses in 2008, I wrote about the massive crowds of young people at Barack Obama rallies, noting that his candidacy would collapse if they dont show up.
The next night, after Obamas victory celebration in Des Moines, Obama strategist Steve Hildebrand spotted me in a crowd. The kids showed up! he said fiercely.
They did. But where are they now?
An army of 15 million voters under 30 swept Obama past Hillary Clinton and John McCain and to the presidency in 2008. More than 12 million helped him return in 2012. But now his presidency is on the line and the Obama youth are abandoning him in his hour of need.
The administration announced last week that only 1.08 million people ages 18 to 34 had signed up for Obamacare by the end of February, or about 25 percent of total enrollees. If the proportion doesnt improve significantly, the result likely will be fatal for the Affordable Care Act.

Asking them to pay money to join a health-care exchange, it seems, is too tall an order

Even the publically educated?, whatever morsel of hope hides therein.
Ah yes...the aforementioned "Those with pre-existing conditions".
That "guaranteed issue" mandate can triple premiums. Guess what...
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t Milbank a reliable liberal? If Milbank says something detrimental about the
man child, it may true....because you KNOW he really doesn’t WANT to report the negative stuff about Zero.
And historically stupid.
They’ve finally pulled their heads out of their asses???
Moochelle...................
1) He implied they would be getting their health care for free. They’re not.
2) He implied they’d be getting student loan relief. They have not.
3) As a group they are highly, highly agitated over the Edward Snowden revelations.
4) They are about to become as riled-up over Obama’s lack of action on Net Neutrality as they are about Snowden.
5) His fifteen minutes are up and he’s just not that cool or hip anymore.
They voted for him now they have to pay for it for the rest of their life so much for thinking they took the bait hook line and sinker.
We told them so
The “Obama Stashers” are finally waking up? Gawd, they’re stupid.
Obama led them to believe that it would not be them paying for all this wonderful Utopia.
They figured out they may not have had health insurance before, but at least they weren’t forced to buy it.
Fact is white youth voted for MR over BHO in 2012. BHO overwhelming carried the youth because the younger you are, the more non-white you are in the US. Therefore, the political divide in this nation is far more racial than it is generational.
They’re busy smoking pot and playing video games in their mothers’ basements.
“Asking them”?????
These kiddos are about to discover that they really aren’t being “asked” to enroll ... any more than a local business owner is “asked” to buy “fire insurance” from a big guy named Vito.
I have three neighbors who's kids are living at home due to being able to find meaningful full-time work.
One of them has a masters degree in forensic sciences and completed a one year tour with the FBI. He has no local prospects despite being a very smart and personable young man. I've known him and his family since he was 6 years old.
I'm within 18 months or so of sending my oldest off to college. He wants to get into Law Enforcement and hopefully into the FBI. I'm wondering if college is worth it since he'll likely start his career with the county sheriff's dept (we know the Sheriff and we've all chatted.)
I feel bad for the "kids" I know that are fresh or 3 years+ out of college, have meaningful degrees and cannot find full time work.
“Often does when the bill shows up.”
And, the truth never does.
