Seems like a pretty good one felt here in South Bay
Just another “Shake and Bake”! I was laying in bed and it started shaking. Can’t wait for the big one!
And full moon!
Here in Torrance, I didn’t notice it, but my daughter and cat did. Barely. Earthquakes have been on my mind a lot lately. I guess it had been awhile since we had a little larger one.
I was in the shower...what did I miss?
It was hugh!
It was just loud here in the W. San Fernando Valley. But, it’s a good reminder to make sure that you’re stocked up on the essentials in case of “The Big One”.
...Like ammo.
I take it you were neither shaken nor stirred.
Two quakes - another one just popped up on the map:
2.7 8km NW of Westwood, California 2014-03-17 10:23:39 UTC-04:00 7.1 km
4.4 9km NNW of Westwood, California 2014-03-17 09:25:36 UTC-04:00 8.5 km
Likely aftershock .....
Yeah, woke us up. My cat is gonna need therapy.
I used to live in South Bay!
Lucy Jones of Cal Tech (the always local go-to expert) says there’s a 5% chance this is a precursor to a larger quake. If not, there’s bound to be smaller after-quakes throughout the rest of the day.
Left for work - street was oddly quiet, looked like I was the only one going to work today, LOL.
It’s already been dubbed the “Shamrock Shake.”
When I think back now, my large dog was very very restless this morning - in and out of the dog door, walking in circles, inside, outside, inside, outside repeatedly. He must have sensed something was up.
They always say (conventional wisdom) that animals sense earthquakes before they happen. Maybe there’s something to it...
Quakes seem to be picking up steam on the pacific plate. Big ones pretty much in 3 of 4 quadrants... with the 4th one being: the US West coast.
I don’t know about you but I grew-up here; and my first experience with an earthquake was as a child, my bed rolling around the room on casters! I thought it was hilarious. So, if it isn’t a 5.0 or better, I don’t get excited. Loma Prieta and Northridge were very bad but they were by no means the “Big One.” That prospect is very scary!
I wasn’t being series.
I knew that. If you had said it was huge, then you’d have got “the fisheye!”
Ha Ha —
Although here in California it would be “Cumo” clone Gerry Brown - I’m sure he’s already demanding a tax increase “on the wealthy” (anyone who has a job) to cover earthquake preparedness, etc.
You got that all wrong. Jerry’s not a clone. He’s the prototype.
The 9.1 we had back 3 years ago had a constant vibration for more than 11 hours... :p
“cuo cuo clock” scale?
