It´s a quiet crisis. In a city of plenty, a staggering number of people are struggling to feed themselves and their families. Nearly one in five New Yorkers, 1.4 million people, now rely on a patchwork network of 1,000 food pantries and soup kitchens across the city to eat. That represents an increase of 200,000 people in five years straining the charities that are trying to help. The two biggest, City Harvest and the Food Bank for New York City, now provide nearly 110 million pounds of food to soup kitchens and food pantries a year. Yet those working

Obesity Epidemic "Astronomical"
One of the biggest health stories of the year has been the rise in obesity among both adults and children in the U.S. We've all heard so much about the "obesity epidemic" that it's easy to think the story is being blown out of proportion. After all, people putting on a few pounds may not seem to warrant the proclamation of a national emergency.

The results were startling: 31% of adults are obese and 15% of children and teenagers age 6-19 are overweight. The proportion of obese people has been growing steadily for the last few decades. Although Ogden stresses that obesity is a problem for all groups and genders, it is particularly severe among certain ethnic groups. For instance, 50% of all non-Hispanic black women are obese.
Doesn’t mean they aren’t committing fraud to get it. Or have zero issue collecting it therefore, do as little as possible to improve their lives so as not to lose it.
ObamaNation.
Feed the cats and even more will come.
The problem is that if you don’t like your current financial situation, do something to get a better job....like actually getting off your butt and moving to a place where you can get a better job.
The people ahead of me in NYC grocery lines using EBT cards don’t look like they are starving, usually have decent clothes on, and are certainly NOT buying just basic foods. A lot of them look like they are illegals, too.
I’m not from New York, so I really don’t care. People have decent leaders like Guilaini, then when he does the best he can and squares NY city away, they turn around and elect socialist. Guiliani wasnt a conserative, but worked within the dem controlled city to try try and get it squared away, and then they piss it away when thing are doing better to elect a self professed communist. Once again E’ff them.
You forgot the cell phones all around and the cable TV with all the extras.
“They keep voting for it. Eff em, my sympathy tank is pretty much on empty.”
I’m in accord with you there, mike.
De Blasio is an incompetent commie.
He wants to tax the wealthy and the middle class. When the tax base is gone, so is the city.
Yep, a couple of guys in a big Manhattan loft apartment complaining about how hard it is to pay the rent when their screenplays aren't selling.
Getting a small studio apartment in Brooklyn and getting jobs as waiters or clerks doesn't occur to them as being an option.
One reason why people on food stamps can be seen buying steak and lobster, is that food pantries allow them to get their basics without using their EBT money.
Elections have consequences.
Yup. I have a feeling that the “bad old days” of NYC are going to be coming back under this clown. He’s definitely a leftist to the core, and I really was only half-joking about him suggesting collective farming.
Yep. Rats on the westside, bedbugs up town. Bleh.
Admittedly Obama wants to fix this starvation shortage... with his death panels. He'll import the British NHS and its Liverpool pathway. No food and no water to quickly end expensive medical problems.
With all these welfare benefits of course you’re going to get more of the same. It’s like pouring Miracle-Gro on weeds.
A classic case of the LIEberal theology at work!
Move to North Dakota, dummies! There are jobs there! You can feed yourself and your family!
JEEPERS!
Wouldn't it be easier just to blow up the bridges to Manhatten?
Not to worry, the bridge arteries into the 5 boroughs will probably collapse soon as the funds that are/were there for roads and bridges have been diverted to social programs.
Well there you have it.
If they just learn to speak Spanish...they'll lose weight.
