Texas Gov. Perry throws support behind McConnell

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry threw his support behind U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell on Saturday, telling 300 fellow Republicans that the minority leader will win re-election.
McConnell finds himself in a GOP primary fight with wealthy businessman Matt Bevin, who attended the event but wasn’t allowed to speak.
“I love the number six,” Perry told the crowd at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner of West Kentucky. “Sam Houston was 6 foot 6 inches tall. And Mitch McConnell is going to be in his sixth term as United States senator.”
Organizers said the dinner was supposed to unite the Kentucky GOP behind one mission: taking control of the Kentucky House of Representatives in November. But speakers talked just as much about taking control of the U.S. Senate so McConnell could become majority leader.
“The future of America is inextricably intertwined with Kentucky and how these elections come out this time,” Perry told the crowd.

No I think Perry is interested in making sure we take the Senate back and he thinks Mitch is the most likely to win that senate race.

Even though personally I loathe McConnell I can understand that line of thinking. I think Perry and many others in the republican elite are thinking if we don’t get the senate back this year we are totally screwed.

Three more years of unfettered Obama and we are going to be in CWII. Because the rule of law is being thrown out the door.

That’s my understanding of his background and what people who have political ambitions often do is stick their fingers in the wind and join the party that voters are moving towards at the time.

This is classic Perry. He is a finger waver and has alot of McCain in him.

I am seriously not trying to be rude or pick a fight, but I’m not getting your point. Are you saying that we should NOT have term limits because the “stooges” that are staying in Congress and the Senate for decades (building personal power & wealth over the years at the expense of America & becoming more & more isolated from their supposed constituents) will then become lobbyists?

I’ll take my chances with the stooges as lobbyists instead of voting in bad law and to rid us of the likes of John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, et al. Better yet, along with term limits, bar permanently anyone from being a lobbyist who has been a Congresscritter or Senator. I’ve seen that suggested in other places and I like it.

The GOP will take control of the Senate but McConnell will go down in defeat.

Perry has been added to the list of establishment turncoats.

There is no middle ground.

I guess Perry is not running...

I'm guessing he is. But he will be disappointed.

Thank you, Gov. Rick Perry!

By your own actions, you have given me the right, and opportunity, to tell you, to go spend the night with that LGBT mayor of Houston! That is all you are good for, now.

Can’t believe this. Oh well. It narrows down my choices for the primaries.

Same here. We have now confirmed Guv Perry's RIINOness....he's scratching the Tokyo Rove group's back, hoping for reciprocation.

No thanks!

Are there any conservatives left in the Republican party besides Ted Cruz?

I can’t think of one right now.

So, you'd rather have a bunch of stooges for corporate lobbyists that are so clueless they depend totally on their staff?

And a stooge for corporate lobbyist that's been there for 30 plus years is so much better?

And to whom do you think they'd be accountable, those who hold a job on the way out or the people?

Do you honestly think any of those in Congress give a damn for the people in their district, other than those who fund their elections?

You are assuming all of them are. Would you characterize Coburn, Inhofe, and Sessions as such? Nor do you wish to keep Cruz, Lee, Scott... No, you'd toss them all and replace them with lobbyist shills without a legislative record.

I’ll take my chances with the stooges as lobbyists instead of voting in bad law and to rid us of the likes of John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, et al. Well then you'd love the California legislature. Term limits are no fix for an ignorant electorate dominated by an indentured constituency selecting people nobody knows and funded by their handlers.

That stooge has a record to run against, unless you're calling Jesse Helms, Jim Inhofe, or Tom Coburn stooges.

Actually, some do. Our job is to cull the herd, not pitch the whole herd including our prized breeders and start over on a fixed rotation.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Perry has lost whatever chance he had for 2016 — by, ironically, trying to increase his chances with this inane favor currying.

I agree. People need to settle down a bit. Perry is a conservative and admit it or not he knows the political game more than any of us ever will. A conservative presidency would be meaningless without control of the senate.

Thanks Rick. I have wanted to like you all along. Almost started to get there.

But, you have made the decision easy by endorsing the Limp Noodle from KY.

YOu are outta here.

“I live in KY. I’ll vote for the Dem before I’ll vote for McConnel. Dead serious.”

That’s not a good idea.

What you should have done was beat him in the primaries.

But don’t go voting to put a Democrat in power. Only Democrats do that.

It effects the whole country.
