PORTLAND -- The school resource officer who shot and killed a violent kidnapping suspect Wednesday was treated and released from a Portland hospital after being hit with gunfire.
Officer John Romero, an 8-year-veteran of the Portland Police Bureau assigned to youth services, was shot in the hand while investigating reports of a suspicious man near Wilson High School.
Romero's job was to protect students and on Thursday, many were calling him a hero.
"Through his actions, he put a stop to something that could have been really awful," said principal Brian Chatard. "It definitely hits close to home."
Witnesses said the suspect, Kelly Swoboda, wanted for kidnapping and bank robbery, ignored commands from Romero and both men shot at each other. Romero then took cover while other officers approached Swoboda and determined he had been killed, according to a PPB statement.

Oops, that'll get him fired and charged with improper relationship with a student.
Imagine that!?!?!
Good shootin’ troop!
Two shots, center mass.
Wonder if we'll ever learn which caliber he used?
Great and fantastic job Officer Romero!
It takes a lot of courage to chase down a bad guy and engage him in a gunfight!
The students at that school are lucky to have you around each day to protect them and all public schools need to tell the Marxists anti gun loons to sit down and shut the hell up! Then go out and get a trained cop like you at school each day or train volunteer teachers. And, no doubt in many cases some of those men and women teachers are combat vets and quite capable of fulfilling the role if called upon.
Officer John Romero, Thank You!
A post at the original source article illustrates what Oregon is up against with a good portion of its population: “Robert M. Koretsky:
At a risk of generalizing to all of society( impossible really because “society” no longer exists), don’t we now all feel so much better that the system actually works for us? We are so much safer now that our gallant heroes, sanctioned by law and popular opinion, can nullify bourgeoisie criminality! Let’s put a valiant policeman in every school, why heck, put a gun in every school kids hands in kindergarten and teach ‘em how to use those things. I salute the media for propagating this fantastic illusion, and giving us such pleasant dreams in our state of perpetual sleep.”
No, I don’t understand what he’s talking about either other than that he’s a Marxist.
He should have given her bus money if he wanted to help.
For his own protection

“...Just another right wing effort to disenfranchise the majority in favor of the rich majority. If you’re poor, or can’t provide unreasonable proof of authenticity, then you are not an American!”
Consider the source. He is a Marxist and typical of the Left coast libs.
And the main idea that will be missed by liberals and the media. It took a gun and violence to protect these children.
the left only thinks he’s’good b/c he’s a govt agent. private citizen would be hanged.
I’m fine to have the left start by acknowledging that armed security is the way to stop School terror, and NOT by expelling Johnny for forming his hand in the shape of a gun.
you haven’t been paying attention.
they don’t start there, they end there.
or another way of looking at it, is their starting point is that ONLY govt agents should have guns and then they don’t end until you and every other peon citizen are disarmed.
Yes, and like most so called Marxist intellectuals, incapable of communicating with the common man he pretends to champion.
I wonder if he really used one of them dangerous looking SST-47 semi-atomic ass halt rifles?
Most liberals would have not wanted this officer armed, and thus try to stop the kidnapper with only harsh language. I’m glad this school wasn’t run by THEM!
They are armed with 9mm Clocks
