Republican Rep. Darrell Issa has penned a personal, scathing letter to his Democratic counterpart on the House oversight committee, escalating the public feud between the two high-ranking lawmakers amid the committee's investigation into IRS targeting.
The letter to Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., top Democrat on that committee, was obtained by Fox News. In it, Issa countered, point by point, a series of claims that Cummings and two legal experts made earlier this week about whether former IRS official Lois Lerner could be held in contempt for refusing to testify.
Issa went further, effectively accusing Cummings of running interference on behalf of his party and the administration.
"... rather than pursuing the facts where they lead -- which is the function of effective congressional oversight -- you have made yourself an obstacle to effective congressional oversight, in effect, a defense counsel for Lerner and others who acted to deprive Americans of their constitutionally-guaranteed rights," the committee chairman wrote.
In another verbal sting, he continued: "Even though the White House helped orchestrate your ascension to Ranking Member, I have encouraged, and continue to encourage, you to subordinate your political loyalties to the institutional interests of the Committee and the House, especially in cases like this where obstructing the Committee's work risks permanently disadvantaging Congress in its interactions with the Executive Branch." ...

Likely a typo. I think he left out the word “Democrat”.
A secondary purpose was for the Dems to exploit the racial angle which is a sine qua non with them.
All this is is a repeat of EVERY investigation Issa does.
He threatens investigation
The right wing rejoices
He makes ‘troubling’ noises
The right wing rejoices
He calls witnesses
The right wing rejoices
They make excuses/ignore questions/lie/claim rights and privileges
Democrats spaz out and obfuscate.
The right wing circle the wagons
Issa goes into seclusion for a few months and announces another investigation on another topic
The right wing rejoices
Anyone notice a pattern? Because all one need do is read history to see the above is exactly what has happened. Fast and Furious/IRS/Bhenghazi/NSA stuff...
I had hoped we collectively were smarter than DU but it seems we have several posters here still not able to accept the truth in front of their faces. Which is why Issa will launch a few more investigations before the election. And they too will go nowhere.
But those wagons gotta stay circled...no matter what. Because Dems are worse. Even when it’s the republican screwing you.
Issa was polite and factual.
I’m not sure what else he can do. The RATS will all hold the line, and any vote for contempt will be a strictly party line action. Boner knows this too. So at some point you go through the motions and make sure you did you duty, even if it leads to nowhere.
Cummings is now a co-conspirator, as are all the democRATS.
He is LEADING IT NOWHERE.
He has the power to ask questions. Instead he adjourns meetings. He can’t even make Lerner sit there and face the people she screwed. He sends her on her way and Cummings grandstands.
He has the power to make her sit there until she complies. Or have her jailed until she does.
Whats more important? Her or America?
he’s messed up, that’s for sure. I wonder if he could retire, even if he wanted to. As long as he has any use to the Democrat bosses, he’s probably stuck.
Good pic. Is that Darrell or his other brother Darrell? ;)
I don’t disagree with you.
I am pointing out that you can beat a horse, and at first it will run faster, however at some point, beating that horse gains nothing.
It seems to me that Issa is simply going through the motions, doing his duty, and in the end realizes that beating that horse leads to nothing. So he moves on to the next item on the checklist, goes through the motions, etc. Rinse and repeat for the next item/outrage.
If Issa doesn’t have the support of the leadership then he’s screwed...Boner/Cantor are the ones who are making it difficult for Issa to actually accomplish anything as best I can tell, so he does his duty, holds the committee hearings and moves on.
No, he’s not. This aint about GOP ‘leadership’. It’s about “HIS” leadership. A leader does not back down because someone wants to put party politics ahead of his country. He does what is right and what THE LAW says he must. She gave up her 5th rights. He turns the other cheek.
He is complicit.
All Issa does is use the Bhoner meekness as an acceptable cover for doing nothing. The end result, the ONLY thing that matters, is that Dems CONTINUE their marxist BS. And Issa and the rest are helping them achieve their goals.
Proof? See above examples of Issa’s fruitless wheel spinning and the results thereof.
Bump...
The UNIPARTY covers for each other... If you approach it from that perspective, then this make perfect sense...
It’s us against them and Issa is NOT our friend on this or any of the other UNIPARTY dealings...
Yep, his feeling self of importance and his willingness to say or do most anything for the party probably shoots down the chances of his retirement.
Sad because he is making a fool of himself but sadder still is that he’s hurting the country as are many Rats.
The Democrats are kind of a cross between the Stepford Wives and a Roach Motel with some Mob Omerta thrown in for good measure.
I was just confused by the fact that people still make excuses for his actions. It is so mind boggling my thought process was unable to deal with it all.
My sincerest apologies to Mr. Knotts and his family for wrongly associating him with the impotent garbage we have ruling over us.
In the meantime....
If the literal ‘few’ good men we have in the house do not stand up and ignore Bhoner to do what the law calls for pretty soon, I am going to be forced to conclude they are not really as good as we think they are.
They have to decide if their party unity/loyalty outweighs their oath to their country. Because their party is clearly supporting liberal policies/actions.
I hope it was a really really scathing letter —
That’ll really show Cummings.
Exactly...In my view if Gowdy had been in the seat we wouldn’t be where we are now and no way would he put up with Elijah’s crud.
