--SNIP-- The committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings, said in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner that Republicans have already botched any plans they might have for contempt actions against Lerner, who headed an IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status.
Cummings, citing opinions from two legal experts and “Supreme Court case law,” said Republicans cannot pursue contempt charges against Lerner because of how the committee’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, abruptly adjourned a hearing with the former official last week.
The letter said Issa “failed to take the basic — but Constitutionally required — steps necessary to hold [Lerner] in contempt,” since the chairman ended the hearing without overruling Lerner’s Fifth Amendment assertion and without “clearly directing her to answer the committee’s questions.”

What good does holidng someone in contempt of Congress do, in terms of actual action? It hasn’t seemed to bother Eric Holder any. Seriously, what happens except a sternly worded letter? Anyone know?

If Cummings weren’t dumb as a post, I’d even wonder if his outrage was manufactured just to goad Issa into doing what he did. But Cummings is a dolt.

Just call the woman back. Ask your questions, and when she declines, then perform the voodoo ritual Mr. Cummings says has been overlooked.
Then proceed with contempt charges.
Get a move on. This is whole charade is headed down the rabbit hole.
