UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The head of the organization that monitors the nuclear test ban treaty said Monday he has asked its experts to see if they detected an explosion at high altitude of the missing Malaysian Airlines plane.
Lassina Zerbo, executive director of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization told a news conference that the CTBTO uses "infrasound" - or infrasonic sensors - to monitor the earth mainly for atmospheric nuclear explosions....

Because it’s impossible.
I think they’re looking way far away from where it is. Shockingly, it appears there is zero Air Traffic Control or something. Nobody seems to know if it was even close to being on course.
I don’t know about that. It would require pretty severe modification to get the nozzle mounted on the front, so it’d be pretty hard to do (and be pretty obvious on the ground), but not “impossible.”
:^)
What’s to the left?
From this map, it looks like water...
It IS possible.
If the plane has been setup for that, there is a Tanker available AND the Crew is trained for it.
But not in this case.
It didn’t explode, otherwise debris would have been found.
The fuel transfer probe would be on top behind the cockpit IF is was setup for it. Then there is plumbing to run to the tanks.
I suppose I’d have known that if I had been in the AF....
I always figured that’s where it’d have to be, and at any rate it would not be something easily concealed on the ground. I’m not sure it’s standard equipment for a civilian plane?
Now that’s a picture that I won’t be able to get out of my mind any time soon.
Thanks for cleaning out my gut so thoroughly
Show me a link to ANY commercial 777 that’s capable of receiving in - air refueling - either from drogue and probe or boom.
Anyone checked the Indonesian volcanos?
About ten miles a minute.
I guess my point was the search had been concentrated off the Viet Nam coast and instead is extended now in other direction toward India as opposed to towards Phillipines.
They’d just take the 5th..
Shockingly? Look at the surrounding countries, not exactly economic powerhouses to pay for a system that doesn't have much tangible benefit for day to day living. ICAO is the 'controlling' authority outside of the US. There is an acknowledged radar gap in this area. Who's gonna pay to close it? Not just the equipment but the staffing.
Nobody seems to know if it was even close to being on course.
That's why there is a reporting procedure. Flying under ICAO is light years from the FAA.
Could Blofeld be back in action? ;)
Not everyman can pass a Bar.
The reported deviation.
Oh geez, I thought it was caused by a shaving rash.
