When it comes to picking a presidential candidate for 2016, the GOP elite is having a hard time getting the grassroots to toe the establishment line.
Top Republican strategist Karl Rove, for example, has repeatedly praised Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey, as “a strong potential candidate in 2016,” whom Democrats fear will win the nomination.
And when other names gained popular attention, particularly attention among the so-called tea-party crowd, the man known as the “architect” was quick to criticize.
Rove, for example, blasted potential presidential hopeful Ted Cruz for not playing ball with the GOP establishment, just as the Texas senator’s name started to gain traction with Republican voters.
Rove similarly opened fire on Sen. Rand Paul, R-Tenn., for talking about Monica Lewinsky and potential Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the same breath.
And even if Christie has fallen from favor among the establishment, other GOP insiders have floated names like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and even the return of former presidential candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as possible nominees in 2016.
But now a poll on one of the Internet’s top websites, the Drudge Report, reveals the ground troops just aren’t buying it.
With over 234,000 votes counted, Rove’s “strong potential candidate,” Christie, was garnering less than five percent of the vote. Bush had just over six percent. Ryan had less than four.
But despite fiery criticism from the GOP establishment, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was registering over 28 percent in the Drudge Report poll, while Tennessee Sen. Rand Paul was leading the survey, with over 30 percent. Paul’s 72,297 votes compared impressively to Christie’s 11,437.

Just remember however please, that there are Democrats who voted in that poll.
Sure Drudge Report readers are more conservative than liberal, but there are plenty of Democrats who voted.
Who did the Democrats who voted?
I do not believe they voted for Ted Cruz, so I’m guessing a lot of them went for the “opponent”.
You have not shown any ‘common sense’ that would persuade me. you have shown me numerous things that a 3 year old could type into a search engine and disprove in moments. You have not addressed a single FACT I have posted... so I am unsure what you mean.
As for Walker ect., why inject more fantasy in this? Neither are even on the radar right now so no point pondering it...unless it’s simply to change a subject.
Rand Paul knows how to pick his words. There is something about him that keeps me from full support. I think he’s been positioning himself for the past year and not about to let that slip. I don’t consider him a Tea Party Conservative. And the youth are behind him for what they think his libertarian views are (IMHO).
I like Cruz, he’s my first choice after Sarah .... but not sure he can stand up to all that will come against him. Even some ‘conservatives’ don’t want a true Tea Party Conservative as President.
No doubt. Believe me, I consider that with every poll.
Which is why they push do hard for Ron Lite and those like him.
The bottom line is we either follow the words of the founders and vote for what we believe in or we play political games and further destroy what they gave us.
This means you have no plan, just insults, and BTW, I take your insults as a joke.. I’m waiting for a plan, an answer to my question, it’s what we are talking about, isn’t it?
What about Dr.Ben Carson?
I’ll get right on it right after you address all the points I have made. Which you ignored.
Carson supports gun control for people who need it least. The people in the inner cities.
He’s a great voice for conservatism but he needs to keep doing it.
Plan, Norm, not another strawman.. Your plan, my FRiend.. You dish it out, but I fail to see any substance, yet..
I haven’t deviated from our topic, however you have.. We’re talking about the upcoming election, and the possibility that your choices don’t make it to the ballot, WHAT THEN?
The Drudge Poll should have included Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Carson could be VP to President Cruz and together they could drain the health care swamp that will be engulfing the US in 2016.
Notice how the MSM want to marginalize or ignore Ted Cruz because they are scared absolutely poopless of a principled and brilliant orator in multiple languages. Dr. Carson is the stuff of legends (and a TV movie).
You never know. The term "Reagan Democrats" was a reality.
I’ll get right on it right after you address all the points I have made. Which you ignored.
But in reflection, I have to wonder why this is such an issue with you to begin with? I mean you admitted you destroyed your own business over politics and then wasted the effort by not voting TWICE...so what plan would matter? NOW you care?
I also, and I would guess others do as well, find it hard to take such a person seriously. Because I cannot think how ridiculous it has to be to think saying the above on a public forum imparts you with a position of credibility. I would assume there is none, which is why you keep changing the subject from post to post and ‘innocently’ avoiding any and all of the points I have made so far.
Ping me when you decide to address them. Otherwise, I think you buried your self sufficiently.
Open primaries are the death of conservatives.
By design. And people that support that insanity by electing RINOs perpetuate it.
Yes, but who is a Reagan Democrat?
I challenge anyone to name any Republican currently in the party, who meets the criteria for a Reagan Democrat?
Who?
I don’t even believe Palin, or Cruz meet the criteria. Nobody is for hiring Americans.
Nobody.
I repeat once for effect, Nobody.
That is a major beef I have in fact with the GOP.
Bring back American companies, and American jobs. Stop buying everything imported.
Hire Americans.
How predictable, so typical.. LOL
Your plan Norm, and you don’t frighten me with your bully BS.. Your Plan, my FRiend.. No more stalling.. I’ll wait, but not long, I have things that are important to do..
We’ve all seen this in the past, stir up the flock, but it’s just that, Stirring the S#it, no substance.. YOUR PLAN..?
Common sense says that as long as 1 person is unemployed in America, there is no need to import jobs or export manufacturing. Jobs are in fact created by training Americans to fill needed positions.
That’s the point I think needs to be made on this issue.
I’ll get right on it right after you address all the points I have made. Which you ignored.
Correct, agree 100% !!!
That said I think the real winner was Cruz.
My opinion.....
