Louisiana state police are investigating the death Victor White, III, 22, who allegedly shot and killed himself while handcuffed in the back of a patrol car, reports The Advocate.
White was allegedly involved in an altercation and when deputies responded to the call they claim to have found illegal drugs on him which lead to his arrest.
White was in handcuffs with his hands behind his back when he was killed, allegedly by his own gun which conveniently wasnt found during the search that led to his arrest.
Read more below from The Advocate:
Once at the sheriffs office, White became uncooperative and refused to exit the deputys patrol vehicle, reports CBS affiliate KLFY.
Trooper Stephen Hammons says White produced a handgun and fired one round, striking himself in the back.
White was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Sheriff Louis Ackal asked State Police to investigate the incident. State Police-led investigations in deaths involving officers are normal.
Were investigating how he got the gun, Hammons said late Monday. Its too early in our investigation to comment further.
Rev. Raymond Brown, president of National Action Now of New Orleans, said Monday night that his organization is looking into Whites death.
Something is seriously wrong with this picture, Brown said.
As previously reported by NewsOne, this isnt the first time that a handcuffed Black man has died under suspicious circumstances.
In August 2012, Chavis Carter, a 21-year-old Mississippi man, was shot to death in the back of a Jonesboro, Ark. Police Department squad car. Police claim that he pulled the trigger even though he was handcuffed and shot on the right side of the head.
Carters mother said her son was left-handed.
Jonesboro Chief of Police Micheal Yates says the scenario is not far fetched at all.
The average person who has never been in handcuffs, that never been around inmates or people in custody would react exactly the same way you just did: How could that be possible? Well, fact of it is, its very possible. Its quite easy, Jonesboro Chief of Police Micheal Yates told CNN.
I pulled an old trick on LAPD to prevent someone from getting a DWI.
A car load of partying guys picked me up hitchhiking one night, the driver got stopped and as it progressed he looked like a DWI goner, none of his friends would do anything, so I got out and started being belligerent about “probable cause” etc. and causing a big distraction, which shifted all their attention to me, I got slammed around a little, but eventually I was cleared and we were sent on our way, the driver had been totally forgotten.
My brother’s friend told a story about driving home drunk one night and he came upon a line of cars at a DUI checkpoint. He put the car in park and scooted over to the passenger seat. When the line of cars began pulling forward a cop approached and asked why he wasn’t moving. He said he was drunk and the guy that had been driving him jumped out of the car and ran away when he saw the cops. I don’t remember what the specific resolution was, but he avoided a DUI.

Care to demonstrate?
You putz”
Ya, seriously. If it were that easy, why bother handcuffing a person in the first place? Just because one or two hired contortionists can do a demonstration of how ‘easy’ it is, doesn’t mean it is the norm.
Who do they think they are kidding?
I don’t think their will be a Victor White, IV
We all know an SUV drove the gun there, and it jumped up and shot the poor man.
Well maybe he needed killin but this is the worst cover up ever.
Are you serious? That’s kinda like expecting folks to believe “he backed into that knife, 20 times!”
What kind of gun - short barrel makes it more possible
Where did the round strike and at what angle - - longer barrel means steeper angle and farther away from hands.
Not saying the cops didn't murder the guy, but there isn't enough data to even determine if it was possible that he did it to himself.
