When Tennesseans spring ahead this weekend, it could be the last time they change clocks.
That is, if a bill sponsored by state Rep. Curry Todd, R-Collierville, goes through. Todds bill calls for the state to stay on daylight saving time all year round. As usual, people are advised to set their clocks ahead one hour as the time change goes into affect at 2 a.m. Sunday. If the bill is written into law, it would be the last time adjustments would be made and no more clock changes would occur.

That’s true. I forgot about the reservation.
Nice, but is Tennessee doing good that it has this to pass.
I am generally nervous and suspicion when ANY legislative body is in session. The historic tendency is for all of them to pass ever more laws. We actually have so many laws that it is impossible for a citizen to obey them all.
This particular legislation I like because it corrects an over reach of the federal power.
No, the arithmetic for one hour is not the problem.
Keeping track of where you are and where you are going to be at some predetermined time and then calculating the time required for a calculated distance is the problem.

Tennessee, in my opinion, is as fine as any state in the union. Years ago, the state motto was “The Three States of Tennessee”, referring to the diversity of west, central, and east If you could lop off west Tennessee, it would truly be as fine as any state.
Same thing for work...change the damn hours. Robots don't tell time.
Uh...excuse me?
DST destroyed the drive in movie business...
I can’t help but think the story is misreported.
Std = 8 eastern, 7 central
Dst = 9 eastern, 8 central.
Right now, East TN is on eastern time, and then central and west TN is on central time. I can see East TN being on EST in the winter and then CDT in the summer (thus they would not change their clocks)....but would Memphis really want to be on EST in the winter?
The legislation as I’ve heard it described is to permanently remain on DST. Not for the entire state to be on one time. Lots of people would prefer the state be on Eastern time, but I work with people in NY, Texas and LA via conference calls. I don’t want to move to Eastern and be 3 hours different than LA. I like splitting the difference. I think a better idea is for the US to split into two timezones.
If we could convince the AGWers that DST causes global warming because the Sun stays up longer before it has to go to bed I think we could get rid of it in no time at all!!!
That reminds me of the joke:
A guy calls the pizza place and orders a pizza. The order taker asks, “Do you want this cut in 6 slices or 8 slices?” The guy says, “Cut it in 6 slices. I don't think I can eat 8 slices.”
I keep telling all the FReepers who “can’t stand daylight time” to move there. And they can vote against McLame in the 2016 R primary.
Kids can adapt.
Here’s the solution I always get hit with...home school.
“Uh...excuse me?”

Excuse what? I said what I think on the subject.
If I were to return to Tennessee, I would live in the area of Monteagle/Sewanee. There is no better land on God’s earth that is any better.
A wise old Indian once said that ,”White man is crazy if he thinks he can cut one foot off one end of his blanket and sew it on the other end and have more blanket’”
Straw man argument. Nobody is making the case that Daylight Savings time increases the amount of daylight. Instead, we are talking about "shifting" the daylight from the early morning hours (when most people are still sleeping or getting ready for work/school) to the early evening hours when many people are engaging in recreational activities.
I would rather have it dark at 7a.m. in exchange for it being daylight at 7p.m., when I am more likely to be out in my yard, taking the dog for a walk, or sitting at a beach.
They already do go to school in the dark in Tennessee.
