MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) Republican Sen. Rand Paul says President Barack Obama's health care law probably can't be defeated or gotten rid of. And he's suggesting there are few ways and little time for him and other congressional Republicans to stop it.
Speaking to reporters Saturday at a gathering of Michigan Republicans, the presidential prospect said Republicans in Congress could use votes on measures in the House and in the Senate to come up with compromise legislation that could make the law more palatable. Some provisions, Paul said, include removing caps on health savings account contributions or deductibles for health policies.
. . . . .
"I'm acknowledging we can't probably defeat or get rid of Obamacare," he said. "But by starting with our position of not funding it, maybe we get to a position where we make it less bad."

We got rid if the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988 didn’t we?

This was from last September before the general public started seeing the effects of the ACA on their personal behalf and the subsequent ground swell of negativity against Obamacare. I would like to see Rand Paul’s current reaction to his September statement and the question posed to him if he feels the same way now, 6 months later, before I decide whether he’s thrown in any towels.
If we give the republican the House and Senate, and they don’t repeal this garbage, they then OWN the garbage.
at least he’s being honest but he should have kept that thought to his self.
Same here. He is just a softer verison of his father.
I don’t understand your statement. Who didn’t know long before September that Obamacare was a disaster?
Yes. Quite right.
Funny. I distinctly remember Romney saying that the Massachusett’s healthcare couldn’t be done on a national level and that Obamacare would be gone as his first day in office.
Stop arguing with left wing knuckleheads. The lesser of evils never moves the bar right. 100% morons.
My fellow Freepers are a fickle bunch. Please look at the date of the statement and consider the possibility that Rand Paul was speaking in the context of stopping the ACA before it was implemented just 10 days later, after his statement.
I have no inclination toward Paul or Cruz or anybody else right now. But also consider the possibility that somebody is posting old items out of context with current conditions in order to curb the appeal of one possible candidate over another.
Just a thought. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll see myself out, thank you...
Of course Obamacare has to be replaced with something. Conservatives back certain things, like portability of coverage, that are popular.
Unless it’s free, people don’t want it. Go plow your horse over at DU, lefty.
Seriesly? The entire general voting public who do not tune in to FR and only just realized once they saw their new plan options (or loss of health plans) in October and the failed roll out in December. That's who. NOTHING is going to change just because a couple of hundred FReepers want it changed. It will change when millions of middle class American's lives are effected. And that has been only happening and reported on since the late Fall
I don’t agree. Those to whom you refer are mostly liberals.
Didn’t think they’d get rid of Prohibition either. Or the Volstead act.
Six months later and he’s been proven correct so far.
