A chastened Rep. Darrell Issa says he has apologized to a fellow senior lawmaker for abruptly cutting off his microphone during a hearing Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa, R-Vista, said he made a personal apology on Thursday to the man he silenced, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md.
Mr. Cummings is a member of Congress who works very hard for his constituents, he said.

We have to be EXACTLY like Democrats. We can't be afraid of using minority powers in committees. We can't be afraid of the spectacle, because of what others might say about it.
We can't be afraid of hurling the charge, just because we can't prove it.
Notice that the coverage is not about Lerner, it's about Cummings and Issa. That's what Cummings wanted when he made his outburst. Even if he didn't get to say what he wanted, he wanted to keep the story from being about Lerner -- and he succeeded.
That's what Republicans have to be unafraid to do. Use arrogance and spectacle to control the narrative.
Issa could have trumped Cummings by calling for the Sergeant At Arms to hold Lerner, right then and there. That would have been spectacle that controlled the media story.
If the roles were reversed, Cummings would have done it reflexively. Republicans would have anguished over it for days and weeks.

How much more Kabuki theater can we take?
Hopefully not much more. It is disgusting.
To have Issa do all the right moves today/yesterday only to back down...disgraceful and disgusting. I am too appalled to express myself properly.
Not a surprise. Issa isn’t much of a streetfighter.
Issa falls for an Alinsky trick.
RULE 8: Keep the pressure on. Never let up. Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.
That is not showing leadership.
Christie the Obama hugger? That was a joke, right?
Look up a zip code in His district. That has worked for me.
He also could have trumped Cummings by allowing him to speak and let people actually hear how he speaks.
Issa better start GROWING A PAIR!!! He is almost WORTHLESS in these “investigations”!!
Issa has pulled defeat from the jaws of victory time and time again.
Oh my gosh. These Republicans are beyond pathetic! Harry Reid goes nuclear in the Senate and nobody says boo. Issa tries to act like a man and he apologizes.
The GOPe is one sick group. Is there any wonder why this country is going down the flushed? We are cursed with weak and feckless leaders. I sick.
Weak, pitiful loser.
I have often thought that Boehner is a very sad man. There is a reason he cries.
Issa = Chump. Republicans need leadership if they are to take back America.
I used to live in Vista in Issa's district. Send one for me.
I'm in Florida now in the district where Alex Sink (D) and David Jolly (R) are duking it out in a special election to fill deceased Bill Young's seat. The media keep saying Sink has a big lead over Jolly, but I'm hoping that's just smack talk to keep Pubbies away from the polls.

He needs to give the gavel to Gowdy.
Funny Cummings didn’t shout “RACIST”. Ova is ova!
But the better tactic would have been to allow Cummings to make his speach, then ask if there was ever an intent to ask Lerner a question. If not, then he could have publicly outed Cummings as wasting the committee's time. If Cummings then asked Lerner a question (and only gotten a 5th amendment plea), Issa could have pointed out that his initial conclusion about the witness was correct. But if Lerner made the mistake of answering an innocuous Cummings question, the law would no longer have allowed her to use the 5th as an excuse for not answering additional questions.
<spit>
Here's an idea: how about 'full contact Congress' ?
Instead of cutting the mic, it's permissible to just walk over and beat the crap out of a racepimp* moronic maggot like Cummings.
It might even make C-SPAM relevant again !
