California's unemployment rate hovers around 10% with over 1.5 million members of the labor force without work. The state's debt sits at an astronomical $419 billion and is expected to surpass $420 billion by the end of 2014. As of today's date, California spends $72 billion more than it takes in. Dividing California into six separate states could also result in the state's current debt being divided into more manageable segments. More importantly, dividing California could alleviate the state's looming tax burden.
One of Draper's intentions is to create a new and competitive environment between the six states. Each region of California has its own priorities, such as the south and its concerns about immigration. A competition and division of priorities could solve California's most problematic situations, like aging infrastructure and declining education. According to Draper, each new state could address the problems that are unique to its residents without bearing the burden of improving the state's other regions.

California is the 9TH largest economy in the world. There is PLENTY of money here. One DOES have to work for it, though.
The "yellow brick road" is in another part of the galaxy.
Yes, let’s give them 10 more US Senators, that’ll solve a lot of problems.
Golgafrincham was a planet, once home to the Great Circling Poets of Arium. The descendants of these poets made up tales of impending doom about the planet. The tales varied; some said it was going to crash into the sun, or the moon was going to crash into the planet. Others said the planet was to be invaded by twelve-foot piranha bees and still others said it was in danger of being eaten by an enormous mutant star-goat. These tales of impending doom allowed the Golgafrinchans to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population. The story was that they would build three Ark ships. Into the A ship would go all the leaders, scientists and other high achievers. The C ship would contain all the people who made things and did things, and the B ark would hold everyone else, such as hairdressers and telephone sanitizers. They sent the B ship off first, but of course the other two-thirds of the population stayed on the planet and lived full, rich and happy lives until they were all wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from a dirty telephone.

No. No way I want those idiots getting ten more senators.
Six states? You KNOW that isn't going to happen.
Besides problems are part and parcel of the human condition. One gets solved and six more pop up. You know that too. Or do you, for some reason, expect human nature to change?
Abraham Lincoln said: Human action can be modified to some extent, but human nature cannot be changed.
But what if they lump all the blue counties together for one "state" and then divide up all the red counties to make up five red states?
Which three are going to be “ New New Mexicos “...
It would break up 55 solid democrat electoral votes, which makes the plan worth considering.
I'd just give them one...including the cities. In fact just cede it back to Mexico and let them destroy it. That way they don't get any senators or votes.
Give them all the city real estate and some connective thin ribbons to contain the main roadways between them.
Of course keep the beaches and farmland.
Just ten years ago, California was the 5th largest economy in the world. Democrat policies in state, Illegal immigration, and the Obama administration have been the gifts that keep on giving.
If we’re lucky, we’ll remain the top 20 world economies.
Tell you what bud. The next time a Republican actually campaign vigorously in the state, I may actually give a damn about our 55 electoral votes. They sure as hell don’t.
I remember when we were the THIRD largest economy in the world.
You are 100% correct about the "gifts that keep on giving."
Angers me it does...
Thanks for the mention.
Judging by that map, I think (can’t be sure without crunching county population figures) that this plan would create three blue states, one red state and two purple states.
It is definitely bluer than it was a few years ago. I would love to retire in or around Crescent City, with giant redwoods in my backyard, but as it is now, as soon as I am retired I will be getting the hell out of this mess.
we made the move last year from Solano County
The Mormon faith believes that Jesus and Lucifer were BROTHERS. How IN THE WORLD could I EVER vote for a Mormon?? They are nuts.
They DENY that Jesus was God, believing that HE was also a created creature, like Lucifer. Lucifer was just an angel, a beloved angel, the "light bearer." Jesus was/is/always will be GOD. How wrong can they be?
Oh well. Not a thing I can do about it.
Statists and Constitutionalists.
Three types, not two. Constitutionalists, statists, and innocents fooled by the statists. Or, low info voters.
