Russia is on the ‘wrong side of history’ and its actions violate international law, Obama says

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says Russia is “on the wrong side of history” in Ukraine and its actions violate international law.

Obama told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday that the United States is considering economic and diplomatic options that will isolate Russia. The president called on Congress to work on an aid package to Ukraine and make it the “first order of business.”

Obama said continued military actions in Ukraine “will be a costly proposition for Russia.”

Russia called for the adoption of a national unity deal in Ukraine even as it tightened its stranglehold over Crimea, an audacious combination of diplomacy and escalating military pressure. The U.S. and European Union floundered for solutions — while global markets panicked over the prospect of violent upheaval in the heart of Europe.

Then came dramatic claims from Ukraine that Russian troops had issued an ultimatum for two Ukrainian warships to surrender or be seized — prompting Ukraine’s acting president to accuse Russia of “piracy.”

Four Russian navy ships in Sevastopol’s harbour were blocking Ukraine’s corvette Ternopil and the command ship Slavutych, Ukrainian authorities said. Acting president Oleksandr Turchynov said commanders and crew were “ready to defend their ships … They are defending Ukraine.”

Sue him in the World Court of course :-)

Putin kind of does have a humanitarian point. Lots of Rooskies still in Crimea, now stuff turning ugly in Ukraine, he wants to guard their backs. Would Ukraine have wanted Russia to keep Crimea if it hadn’t been granted in the first place, I don’t know. I think Putin is going to be satisfied for now with just seizing control in Crimea. It isn’t quite the old USSR itch.

Still, it seems this sort of humanitarian crisis is exactly why the UN was established. If Ukrainians are giving Crimeans a hard time, then the first thing that should have been tried was to bring in UN peace keepers.

The problem for Obama is a little hearalded agreement called the Budapest Memorandum- it was signed 20 years ago in 1994 by four parties to the agreement
Bill Clinton for the USA
John Major for Britian
Boris Yeltsin for Russia
and Leonid Kuchnar for then head of Ukraine.
This was an agreement that in a post Soviet bloc era and not nuclear weapons in former soviet block countries that they needed protection so this agreement said if anybody invaded little Ukraine they would be subject to going to war with the signing parties...
Since Russia is going in...that leaves it up to the USA and Britain to go to war against Russia.
Course I am sure both Obama and Britian hope nobody remembers this treaty.
But it is there .

It’s time for Obama to get really mean. He should call them “racists”, if that doesn’t work, he could call them “homophobes”. That works against RINOs.

If all else fails, he could send Putin his soiled panties.

It’s time to use extreme measures.

PUTIN IS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY...”

Obuma is stuck in 1917 because he thinks he’s Lenin in a Mau-Mau loincloth.

Your comment, with a “?” about the Russians not allowing us to use Russian bases to hit Afghanistan, is perhaps a past tense. We tossed Afghanistan back to the Taliban based on the Democrat's war on Afghan women. Accordingly, we should not pull out militarily, just ground troops, but INCREASE drone strikes as and where needed. The military is capable of projecting force any where from a lot fewer bases, at least Russian ones. Sic any use of any Russian bases to destroy the Afghan Taliban would be moot & the Russians want revenge for their axx kicking in Afghanistan.

That said, “F*$%m and either way that we see it,pursue the Monroe Doctrine. NO RUSSIAN BASES IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE
