Sacrificing the Military to Entitlements

Vladimir Putin, playing geopolitical chess while our president plays tiddlywinks, has effectively taken over Crimea. Armed men, looking suspiciously like Russian military personnel, have seized both airports and established border checkpoints decorated with Kalashnikovs and Russian flags. This comes after other armed men seized two government buildings and raised Russian flags, as the legislature appointed a pro-Russian regional leader. Meanwhile Russian military forces are gathering on the border, with Russia’s parliament unanimously voting to approve deploying troops in Ukraine.

The safety of the rest of us is being compromised by the greed of the welfare classes.

I tire of hearing Social Security and Medicare lumped in as entitlements. People had their pay docked to pay for those.

Entitlements are Medicaid for drug abusers and other nonproductives, welfare to health people who should be working at least part time, subsidized housing for imports, like the Somali population we have in Seattle, headstart for kids whose parents are not working anyway and should be able to take them to the library.

So we support all these moochers at the expense of not funding our military - which does not mean we have to use it, but at least have the ability to - and become a weak country filled with the weak-minded and lazy that can be overrun by countries who actually care about supporting their lands, people and their chosen religion.

Zero is sacrificing the military budget to buy votes.

Tire away, that's what it is. The taxes were to pay for current retirees, not yours. Early on they made out quite well. Now it's a screw-job. I don't expect ever to see a dime.

I called the local Chevy dealer and told him I’d be down to buy a new Volt right after I get my Peace Dividend Check from The War On Poverty.

Although both obviously badly need reform, I don’t consider SSI and Medicare welfare either.

"The taxes were to pay for current retirees, not yours." Not quite true. There were huge SS surplus payments from Baby Boomers in their peak earning years. Which surpluses were supposed to be used to prepare for the shortfall as the BBs retired.

Of course those surpluses were spent by Washington DC on candy and cigarettes for everyone instead.

If the government cuts me a check for the $236,000.00 that has been pay to them for my Social Security and Medicare I’ll opt out of my “entitlement”. And I’m not even charging them interest.
