The State of Connecticut says that all citizens must register rifles and high capacity magazines, or be charged will a felony. As many as 100,000 people could face heavily armed police smashing down their doors and be charged with a felony.
The legislature of CT says that a registration is needed so they can know where the guns are. Yet at the same time, they are sending threatening letters to gun owners. So they already have records of who has purchased certain guns. The fact is, that the CT legislature fully intends to confiscate hundreds of thousands of firearms anyway......
The tipping point comes when people just start 'taking out the trash' as opportunities arise.
If FreeRepublic.com is not shut down before we get to that point, I'm going to be really interested in where this forum eventually lines up.
Question for you politicians who wrote this bill, signed by the governor, and is now law: How do you stop the war; how do you stop the killing?

That poster thinks one should hide their guns if the state comes to confiscate them. Like others here, I think that's a fatally incorrect response. The whole point and purpose of keeping arms is to possess the means to fight back against an oppressor.
If a government ever became so suppressive that it sent its agents to forcefully seize the people's arms, then that government has abdicated all moral authority to stand, and is now nothing more than a barbarous thug regime which needs killing.
Let's say a state gov't was nuts enough to try something like that. If the jack boots started taking casualties from the outset of such a draconian operation, they'd back off quickly, and the state would re-assess what they're doing. They'd actually be lucky if they didn't spark a full scale rebellion with such a heinous act.
Yes, you'd also have some dead patriots in such a scenario, but that's what happens when you 'refresh the Tree of Liberty'.

It seems a thinly disguised ex post facto law designed to outlaw guns already bought and owned long before the law passed, because the ultimate goal is to criminalize the guns and target them for confiscation.

That's exactly how I envision such a confiscation scenario going down.
The number of citizens who've refused to register their rifles in CT is about 100,000. That's a force equal to about 1/6th of U.S. combat forces. And they're on high alert, due to the building tension being caused by the state gov't.
If the state decides to move forward with confiscation, every person in CT will know when it begins, which means the JBTs would be facing suicidally overwhelming odds.
I think the state is going to blink. Look for them to find some other way to impose their tyrannical order on the non-compliant.
There is no licensing or registration here. Besides, I've never given a LEO a reason to ask. If one or more did, I wouldn't attempt to explain.
Don't talk to the police without a lawyer present. Don't consent to any searches without a warrant.

Of course they will. In fact it will probably be a barrage. Exorbitant fines for non-compliance, even defined retroactively. Tax liens and seizures. Child welfare inspections and charges by "confidential informants".
Allegations of domestic violence, instant grounds for warrantless SWAT raid and arrest. The police press release will only mention that an illegal arsenal was found with no mention of your non-compliance. You're a wife beating child molesting psycho gun nut. Recognize that fabricated stereotype?
Don't register your guns and expect to register your car, boat, or business. Code inspections will find serious violations, they'll red tag your home, forcing you out and suddenly home value plummets. Remember, CT is the home of the Kelo decision.
There are thousands of minor and serious infractions that will be used to harass non-compliers, none of which need be gun related.

***There is no doubt that FR would be shut down, as well as several other websites. Most of us will scramble to some other obscure website to discuss matters, but the coherence would be lost.
The way to combat that outcome is to start establishing cells and independent communication channels right now. There are tons of posting sites that could be used for backchannel communicating if the code words were set up ahead of time. It wouldn’t be an easy task, more like herding cats.
