Here's how you stop and deter Putin. it is how George Bush got the job done in 2008 in Georgia.
Bush started out by talking to him face to face in Beijing and letting him know, man to man, that it was not going to go as Putin imagined.
We had military advisors already on the ground there. Bush immediately expedited the return of 2,000 members of Georgia's 31st Light Infantry Battalion who had been fighting beside US Marines in Afghanistan.
He then sent in more US personnel and material on C-130s and C-17s...direct to Tiblisi and immediately (which is what we should be doing right now to Kiev). When those US C-17s and C-130s went in, they had a lot of US personnel on them in addition to the supplies and material...and that was in addition to the military personnel we already had there.
Bush did not pull those out...he added more to it and made it clear to Putin that a push into and through Tiblisi was going to put the US Military in the line of fire and that Putin DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT.
In addition, in short order, three US warships and three NATO warships entered the Black Sea. Some brought supplies, others stood by and defended them. The three NATO warships and one of the US warships were top of the line surface combatants with two AEGIS vessels and two other guided-missile vessels.
Putin knew that Bush meant what he said. He had seen it already time and again over the seven years prior. He consiodered the cost of rolling over those US personnel and what the consequences would be, and he knew there would be very severe consequences with a heavy interest payment.
The following are all pictures from the events of the day, during the Georgian crisis, of us material, more advisors, equipment flowing in. Of US advisors already on the ground and training Georgian forces immediately prior to and during the crisis, and US and NATO warships all sent into the Black Sea during the crisis.
Bush drew a stark line in the sand...and he did it with the US military even as the Russian forces were nearing the capitol...and Putin paused, and then stopped, and negotiated.
Now THAT'S how you deter a man like Putin. Stop talking and start acting.
Good info I think he wants to secure gas lines it’s an excuse he could use to take the country?.
perhaps putin is just who we need to confront the islamofascists of europe.
let him sort them out.

yep. it does not bode well for the mishandler in chief and our side. but perhaps such a bungling of foreign affairs will inspire an american spring.

You know very little about Putin, Russia, and the region in general apparently -— you just regurgitate the mainstream media govt propaganda that you have swallowed.
How nice to see you following the corrupt line of Obama and Kerry and the rest of that gang.
...and I am not at all swallowing the propoganda that Obama and his cretins are putting out.
However, it is clear that you, OTOH, are more than happy to swallow and follow the propaganda tat Putin has laid down. And he is good at it. After all, as a KGB operative he ran agents and used it to great effect to control them.
In addition, he has honed those skills on the international front, particularly for any ethnic Russians anywhere, and most importantly for his own citizens, in maintaining power for the last 15 years as the leader of Russia, shrewdly getting around the Russian Constitution on a limit of eight years as President.
Putin is a shrewd and very calculating leader. And he must be respected. He has pined for a return to the glory days of the USSR and calls the fall of the Soviet Union the worst disaster to befall mankind in the 20th century. Read his book, First Person.
...I have. It is important to know your adversaries and he is a very important and dangerous adversary of these United States.
And he is not only playing Obama like a fiddle, he is ensuring that Obama keeps his word about being "more flexible," when he was caught on live mic saying so to Medvedev in 2012. Putin is probably enjoying causing him to go through unbelievable contortions, literally bending over backwards to show how flexible he can be for the Russians...as he promised.
How interesting that we now have Hillary and Kerry supporters at Freerepublic. How long did it take for you to swing the other way?
Respectfully, I agree with PJ Too. It’s down to the UK at this point, and France, and maybe Germany.
Obama is busy threatening Israel at the moment.
Everybody thinks Obama is a bad president. He’s only bad if your agenda for the US isn’t the same as Obama’s. From Obama’s point of view, he’s the most important president since Lincoln. He’s made this point before.
Remember, it was Lincoln that slammed home Federalism, and gutted the 10th Amendment.
What, were you looking in the mirror when you camne up with that one? Or do you simply have mnothing else to add and this is rediculous assertion is all that is left to you?
Either way6, I have made my position very clear...and there is no resemblance in it to either of the people you mention.
Any honest reading of what I have written makes that clear...and I am more than willing to allow other freepers and lurkers to read for themselves and to judge....as I have been doing here for going on 17 years now.
But you have a wonderful day, ya hear?
When it comes to traditional American values, when it comes to the Constitution, when it comes to American exceptionalism and the free market, and America standing up in the world as a beacon for freedom and hope...he is the absolute worst President in the history of this nation.
When it comes to his own plans, goals, and ideologogical outlook...which is the antithesis of those things...he has had one of the most extraodinarily successful Presidencies in his accomplishment of those goals. Not without hiccup and not without opposition, thank God, but still very significantly successful in his udermining of America at every turn.
This man knows exactly what he is doing. He is not a bumbler or an idiot. He told us straight forward that he planned to fundamentally chanfge America. And he is doing so on almost all fronts with abadon and success.
But he is mortal and will not always be in this position. And, as Patrick Henry said, ‘There is a God in Heaven who watches over the affairs of man.”
The pendulum is going to swing back...the only issue now is, how far will it go before that starts...and how much damage to those former things I spoke of in the first paragraph of this rsponse will be done before it does.
Let’s pray that the answer to both questions is the same...not too much more. But if there is, it just means we have all the more work to do. Which work we will never accomplish in any case...any more than our founders could have...without the support of God in Heaven in doing so.
Maybe that’s the issue. If God has a plan for the United States of America, then we will get through this.
Adams said, however, that once you lose freedoms, they aren’t returned. You have to take them back, generally by force.
And Franklin pointed out from the beginning that our system of government could only work with a moral, educated people.
I actually think the entire thing requires rethinking. What would life be like without Washington DC? I’m not sure it is a question people ask. I know that asking it provokes an emotional response.
I’m not advocating a coup, or revolution. I’m saying that we aren’t getting what we pay for from the feds. If the states had to go it alone, and if they could divide the federal assets between them, what kind of alliances would result? Would the conflicts be so big among some states that it is more prudent to keep the FedGov.
There would be issues, like the ballistic submarine missile fleet, and what to do with them, but if we are out of the ‘protect national interests abroad’ business, then I don’t see the point in a FedGov worried about the ‘general welfare’ and what that buys you.
He does...and always has.
It was John Adams who said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.”
..and most of the founders knew...because they lived it...that once the freedoms/liberties were lost, it took blood to get them back. Meaning the shedding of blood because tyrants will not stand by and allow them to be retrieved without people who are willing to fight those tyrants and their minions.
Franklin said that, “the tree of liberty needs to be watered from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots.”
I am afraid we are nearing such a time. In fact, if those same founders wee alive today who fought King George...that time would have occurred some decades ago. They never would have stood for what we are allowing now.
Why America has Prospered and been Free

What if Russia cuts of the food supply for are troops. If they do we have a new game.
You know nothing absolutely nothing about the history of the region of Ukraine. Nothing about its origins its people its ideologies...nothing. You know only the propaganda being spouted by the Corporate elitists that govern the “west”...You are just spouting nonsense from the lame stream media...or McCain’s press office.
This isn’t difficult. Putin is a murdering thug who invaded his neighbor with a fifth column of Russian soldiers wearing no insignia. That is a war crime. He belongs in Slobos old cell in the Hague.
What hole did you crawl out of? Some Islamofascist hole?
And while I’m at this distasteful exchange with revealed ignorance...only a misguided person would post what you did of a paid stooge for the islamofascist lobby...Which is it?
Yes, I am a paid stooge of Team USA. Freedom and liberty for all. I can see you play for Team KGB. Go lick those KGB boots someplace else.
Oh...I see...now you think you can read my mind, somehow know my educational history, my own relatives and friends and where they are from, and make totally unfounded pronouncements about me in an effort to try desperately to somehow discredit what I am saying.
Typical. Resort to some form of ad hominem when all else fails..
‘nough said. You are beginning to reveal yourself for what you are, and there is no sense continuing any dialog. I am more than happy to let others judge for themselves.
