Mayor de Blasio brought down the hammer Thursday on three charter schools operated by his nemesis Eva Moskowitz, leaving hundreds of kids without classrooms this fall.
This has to be the saddest day for the Success Academys children, family, teachers, school leaders, Moskowitz said after meeting with stunned charter parents in Harlem.
Right now, our kids are being evicted. Evicted out of their school. Its wrong and we need an explanation. Youre going to have to ask Mayor de Blasio what the motivations are for a decision that will hurt so many children now and, frankly, forever.

Charter schools are still public schools insofar as their funding is concerned; they get an attendance-based allocation from the State for every warm butt that sits in a desk daily.
Once you possess that piece of information you recognize other school district-instigated “community” initiatives geared toward capturing as much of that money as possible: daytime curfew ordinances aimed at getting truants into the classrooms are a prime example. You also have a new awareness of why non-public educational options are so often regarded as a threat to institutions of public education.
As the saying goes, “Follow the money.”
This is not a good sign. Elect a few more like him elsewhere and they can inflict real damage.
