This top-down, statewide measure stems from political correctness not protection.
Antibullying legislation is a top priority for DFL leaders at the Capitol this year. In the last session, their bill got hung up in the Senate, and they appear determined to muscle it through this time around.
Bullying is wrong. No child should have to put up with it.
But a glance at the bill raises troubling questions. Why doesnt it protect all children equally, instead of singling out for favored treatment children of protected classes, such as race, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression? Why are traditional victims of bullying, like kids who are timid or viewed as nerds, invisible in this bill?
Why does the bill give the Minnesota Department of Education power to reduce or withhold state aid to districts it views as failing to create a sufficiently positive school climate for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students and for those with gender identity and expression issues?
Why is it likely that under the umbrella of bullying prevention you may soon find that your daughter is studying LGBT demographic trends and famous scientists sexual orientation and that your son can join the girls basketball team if his gender identity inclines him that way?
Heres the answer: The bill misleadingly named the Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools Act is not primarily about preventing bullying. Its driven instead by a political/cultural agenda thats not so much about stopping bad behavior as it is about using the machinery of state education to compel children to adopt politically correct attitudes on human sexuality and alternative family structures.

Why can the undocumented Communist-Moslem Obama
and his DO”J” and his evil IR”S” bully, endlessly?
Anti bulling has nothing to do with protecting a shy kid or protecting a white kid being attacked by blacks...its all about muting any criticism of open sexual deviants.
Any of these bills that use the term “sexual orientation” need to be referred to as “Pedophile Protection Acts.” Force these libs to define “SEXUAL ORIENTATION.” Pedophiles are becoming a “protected” class of people with all of these laws that are being put on the books. A pedophile is “sexually oriented” to go after children.
The anti-bullying craze is part of the homosexual agenda. It will be used against Christian kids who dare say that homosexuality is a sin.
The bill makes Christianity = bullying
This is not about bullying. It is about promoting homosexuality to children. Plain and simple.
Is it wrong?
That's kind'a like venial and mortal sin ... it can be really bad ... and ... not so bad.
I was bullied a lot in my lower grades because I was a quiet, geeky/nerdy lookin' kid that never learned to fight or even to defend myself (I'll publically analyze myself another time)
I started fighting back in Junior High ... got my ass kicked more than I kicked ... but I learned.
High school and beyond was basically uneventful ... to this day.
Being bullied pissed me off more than it hurt, and the embarassment of crying in front of girls is ... I don't want to remember.
Suffice it to be true ... bullying is part of growing up ....
especially for the bully that gets some sense later on in life.
Why are traditional victims of bullying, like kids who are timid or viewed as nerds, invisible in this bill?
Very true. They are bullied more than any other group. Although I suppose being a nerd and possibly gay could be one in the same for SOME kids. The government is more out of control by the day.
I remember the days when kids just wanted to learn and not worry about all this society junk. Let the kids be kids. I went to Catholic School and never heard a child say that homosexuality is a sin ..Do you want to know why? Because we had no idea what the heck homosexuality was. I graduated high school in 1987 and kids did not discuss such things. Times were much better back then when homosexuality was not a common word.
Minnesota: Run by communists and Somali terrorists
If you want to prevent bullying, allow self defense. Else, this facilitates bullying.
got my ass kicked more than I kicked
Me too, but I got sick of that after awhile and really started to concentrate and fight back. However, after a few fights that I won, it was over and never have hit another person since 7th grade. Growing up is not for the weak for sure. Why can’t people say, “buck up” like they did when we were growing up. We are really raising a bunch of weaklings and I am talking from birth with all the safety precautions we put on children today. Good Lord how did we survive childhood? A broken leg or arm is practically out of the question today.
The heart of bullying is collectivism.
Collectivism requires bullying.
I was 15 years sooner and there was lots of bullying-the nuns bullied the students!
NAMBLA protection? How can these asshats put crap like this forward when the prime example of bullying “lies” with the “lyin’ king” and his ilk?
I can’t believe the Red Star would print this, other than they are safe in their belief that the liberal loons in Mpls will uniformly disapprove of K.K.’s POV.
Bingo!
My son is a big kid — “fat” would be more accurate. He is also one of the sweetest, kindest kids you’ll ever meet. And as he’s grown up, his body has caught up, so that that fat kid from grade school is now a 260-pound offensive guard playing varsity as a sophomore. He was teased unmercifully when he was younger, even by twits he could crush with one hand (he’s always been crazy strong). I told him to go ahead and bust some of those bullies in the mouth, and that that would shut them up fast enough. He said he couldn’t do that because the school had a “zero tolerance” policy toward violence.
So I went to the school and said one of two things was going to happen: either THEY were going to protect my son or he was going to protect himself. They repeated their zero-tolerance policy and I said I was prepared to see my son suspended, but I was not prepared to see him go through hell every day to protect a bunch of PC pussies.
I wish I could say that solved the problem — and it did help — but eventually the bullies and my son all outgrew it. But I know the experience scarred him and he still suffers because of it.
This legislation will do nothing to address situations like my son’s. But it will place a bubble of smug superiority around fags, dykes, gangsta wannabes, and in-your-face losers. And it will bring us one step closer to Thought Crime.
Being bullied pissed me off more than it hurt, and the embarassment of crying in front of girls is ... I don’t want to remember.
...Good God, man, you cried in front of girls...?
Suffice it to be true ... bullying is part of growing up
...absolutely it is...in my day, there were dysfunctional greasers who made their bones pushing people around...and this pissed me off no end...but to push back meant never ending retaliation, and my calculated response was to ride it out, and that was right...I was more hurt by my so-called comrades, who could turn on a dime against me, and subject me to torments, but such is the nature of callow youth...
...that cultural engineering is going on by lawgivers to achieve desired social results...well, this has been going on since cavemen decided to pool their efforts in order to distribute the burden of making a living...
