You know one of the things people say about Americans is they don't understand or respect the world's cultures, but it works both ways most of the world really don't understand America and don't wish to any more than may Americans wish to understand the theirs. The rudest most borish anti Americans I have every come across on line after the 'Mooselames' and certain Expats are:

1. Canadians
2. Australians
3. People from the western EU

People who are closest allies.

Don't get me wrong I meet a few that were great people, but it's rare to find a non American that truly understands us.

I think these lines from the movie 'The Wind and the Lion' sums it up correctly:

Theodore Roosevelt: The American grizzly is a symbol of the American character: strength, intelligence, ferocity. Maybe a little blind and reckless at times... but courageous beyond all doubt. And one other trait that goes with all previous.

Reporter: And that, Mr. President?

Theodore Roosevelt: Loneliness. The American grizzly lives out his life alone. Indomitable, unconquered - but always alone. He has no real allies, only enemies, but none of them as great as he.

Reporter: And you feel this might be an American trait?

Theodore Roosevelt: Certainly. The world will never love us. They respect us - they might even grow to fear us. But they will never love us, for we have too much audacity! And, we're a bit blind and reckless at times too.

Sounds like something out of Hollywood. Keep your difference, keep your guns. We are more interested in the weather and who wins the cricket and the Melbourne Cup.

The only reason I responded is because of a comment asking where would you choose to live, and I suggested Australia might be nice. I didn’t want to go to war over it.

{sigh}... ok... here we go.

“...If you had reason to be so proud, you wouldn’t need to be so on the defensive....” You say.

Might I remind you - and I will, of course - that it was YOU with your “manipulated” comment, and your snarky Parthian shot about “attitude” that started it.

“...Your gun deaths are TEN times what ours are,...” You say.

Again, irrelevant. See my previous explanation and try to absorb it. It’s not a real difficult concept. Our demographics are indeed different, but that has exactly - ZERO - to do with the concept of why we Americans carry guns.

“...Aussies punched well above their weight in two world wars...” You say.

Who’s being defensive now? Never took a shot at your ANZACS. YOUR original comment was that YOUR country was a better place to live than mine. I disagreed, and pointed out some salient points through history why I think differently. I have family from mother’s AND father’s side who fought in the Pacific to help make SURE Australia didn’t become a Japanese protectorate. One of them never left Iwo Jima; he was 22 years old. Another almost died on Okinawa from a Japanese bayonet to the throat (he didn’t).

“...essentially was we don’t NEED to carry a gun, so we DON’T carry a gun,...” You say.

I don’t “NEED” to carry one either. I do it because I CAN, and because it is my right to do so, and because I have a duty and obligation to my fellow Citizens - even to those morons who DON’T get it. People are SAFER because people who carry guns legally and are properly trained are there to prevent crimes.

And before you go off on the “massacre” tangent understand this: there are liberal morons in this country that try to make “gun-free zones”. And those places are where those incidents happen, precisely because there is no one on scene to prevent it.

Or maybe that’s too complex for YOU to understand? You DO understand the whole sheep - sheepdog - wolf paradigm, I assume? Maybe not. Probably not. But you’ll have to figure that one out yourself.

“...The thought of a civilian parading down the street with a weapon as if it was a fashion accessory is repugnant...” You say.

And I say that with THAT attitude, you’d fit in right well with our left-wing libtards who believe exactly the same thing. Civilian? I’m a Citizen. Big difference. Governments have killed more of their own - UNARMED - people throughout history than anything else. That’s the whole point of Citizens being armed; to prevent that.

“...one of the first things I would do if I was to contemplate spending any time in your country, is learn to shoot and buy a gun for my own protection...”

Good. Then there’s hope for you, sport. And if you DO decide to come here, seeing as how I am a licensed and OH-fish’ly certified Firearms Instructor, I’d be glad to teach you how to be a Sheepdog, rather than - well, never mind; you heated this up enough already.

But wait a minute - you COULDN’T buy a gun here legally... because oops! You’re not a Citizen.

Something is either true or its not, doesn’t mater from where it comes.

The problems we are have is a result of people trying to make us more like Canada, Australlia and the EU. It don’t fit us.

Keep your weather, keep your cricket, keep your cup and if you want a war you know where we are.

“...We are more interested in the weather and who wins the cricket and the Melbourne Cup....”

And that, my Aussie friend, is why you will never be a Grizzly.

“...I didn’t want to go to war over it....”

Nor did I. My response to you was cordial enough, and it was a simple QUESTION out of plain curiosity. YOU got on a high horse about it with your churlish response.

Maybe you need to learn to distinguish potential friends from enemies. You’re on a forum here since 2003 and you clearly still don’t understand us?

But - all that aside - in the interest of keeping the historic friendship and harmonious International relations our two peoples have shared for decades, I WILL buy you a Fosters and several shots of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey if you ever come this great, magnificent country of mine, just to show you there’s no hard feelings, and I will also take you to one of our magnificent, freedom-inspiring rifle and pistol ranges and gladly instruct you on some of the finer points of American Basic Rifle Marksmanship and Defensive Handgun Use.

What say you?

How many people do you think would have to be arrested on trumped up BS charges before enough people would revolt?
Too many to count. And, the "Law & Order Republicans will cheer right up to the day they become victims.

If you don't believe it, take a look at any FR thread discussion the law enforcement issues.

Geographicaly we are delightfully postioned to prevent the arrival of boat-people from your country. I metaphoricaly invite a poster here to check out Australia as a good place to live, and I get a war?
Your aggression is showing.

“...I metaphoricaly invite a poster here to check out Australia as a good place to live, and I get a war?...”

This isn’t a war. It’s merely a discussion of attitude.

“...Your aggression is showing....”

Hey, We’re Americans! Thank God we’re aggressive, or one half of the world would be speaking Japanese (that would be your half, by the way) and the other half German..

Just sayin’...

Now, C’mon Fred....

Just agree with me. You KNOW I’m right. You KNOW you want to.

I KNOW you’re sitting there, smiling at your monitor, right now...

Say it. “Hale, you are indeed correct.”

Besides... where the hell else can you get into a good-natured argument with aggressive, gun-totin’ bloody yanks and STILL get offered a drink and trip to the range?

:^)

So you think yourself ill used?

Well will you help me prove my point that you do not understand Americans, especially FReepers?

You previously boosted about Australia's Australia government run health system that works, minimum wage and unlimited unemployment benefits.

Post your boast in its own thread and ask this Forum if they would like to see this same programs implemented in American.

But prepare yourself because most if not all of the replies you will get will be much less kind than I have been. You will find out quickly just how little you know about Americans and Freepers.

Do it is you believe you are so right, but I assure you you will quickly find just how much you do not understand this forum or the vast majority that belong on it. Aggression? You ain't seen aggression, but believe me you will know when it comes.

So you’re saying I’d be right at home there, then?

You’re ON! Re-extend that invitation.

But YOU buy the drinks, since you started this (easy now, you know I’m right...say it... ). I’ll bring the firewagons. AND teach you as well, pro bono, on the house, for free... etc., etc.,

Obama??

Hell, I said “AMERICANS”. What’s HE got to do with anything? We don’t even know where the hell that clown was born.

We don’t mention that name anywhere in conjunction with the Sacred Appellation “American”.

And that’s some REALLY lousy cartooning there...everybody KNOWS we don’t use Sherman tanks anymore!!! Geez...!

...Post your boast in its own thread and ask this Forum if they would like to see this same programs implemented in American.

It works for us because we have the resources to pay for it. That won't last forever. You wouldn't know if you like it not, because you haven't had the chance to try it, and you haven't got the income to pay for it. Your debt is strangling you. Your infrastructure has been neglected. Don't get me started. Facts are facts. Just because you deny it, doesn't mean I have to swallow it. It might take several generations before you get out of your financial problems, not to mention sending the gimme-dats to work, you've got something like 40% of the population on some sort of government assitance right now. There's no need for these comparisons anyway, we are what we are and you are what you are. Stay that way, and stay away.

You wouldn't like it. I'll be carrying an icecream and you'll be carrying a gun. The twain shall never meet. We're just different.

And long live the difference.

Then why posted it here seems more than a bit agressive. Seems to me you be much more happier over at DU where they are pretty much in agreement with you.

Maybe you think me agressive American, but I have enough manners not to go an Australian forum and run my mouth. The only think you have done so far is prove my point about who are the most rude people toward Americans.

But I sure wished you had had the backbone to post your boast. It would have been most interesting.

:Stay that way, and stay away."

Then why post this on and American forum? You claim that I am agressive, but you come into my vertual yard take a dump and then don't understand why I would be agressive?

“..Stay that way, and stay away. ...”

Now is THAT a nice thing to say!

“..you’ve got something like 40% of the population on some sort of government assitance right now. ..”

And you somehow got the impression that guys like us are OK with that?

Like I said - you’ve been here since 2003 and you’re STILL clueless.

(Just agree with me; its easier. I can do this all night...)
