Russian spy ship docked in Havana

Havana (AFP) - A Russian warship was docked in Havana Wednesday, without explanation from Communist Cuba or its state media.

The Viktor Leonov CCB-175 boat, measuring 91.5 meters (300 feet) long and 14.5 meters wide, was docked at the port of Havana's cruise ship area, near the Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The Vishnya, or Meridian-class intelligence ship, which has a crew of around 200, went into service in the Black Sea in 1988 before it was transferred seven years later to the northern fleet, Russian media sources said.

Why would they drop off something that their subs can deliver easier if they wanted? I read this and think, Russians in Cuba, so what else is new.

I assumed from the headline that warships do not frequent there. Maybe I'm wrong.

A ship assigned to the Russian Northern Fleet docks in Havana near the tourist docks in February? There may be a simple explanation. I doubt they had to ask twice for volunteers for the mission.

I passed about 150 yards astern of this ship Saturday at about 10-10:30 am about 20 miles off Palm Beach. We were headed in from Lucaya,should have taken pics.

Yeah while Cuba is 90-110 miles from the Keys a small reef structure and set of islands controlled by the Bahamas are even closer and within easy reach of the Keys.Cay Sal and the Cay Sal Bank.

Well, the US is meeting with leaders of countries neighboring Russia (Georgia, Moldova) to discuss closer ties between them and the West, so the Russians are returning the favor.

It’s not just Israel though… the Great Satan is definitely in Iran’s battle plans for war. They have been strengthening ties with Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia – guaranteed to bring terrorism to our homefront and Obama will have American blood all over his hands – again.

Wish I had taken some but didn’t. Too busy looking w the binoculars to verify it wasn’t dragging anything and altering course to pass eastern. Already back home from the boat or I could take a pick of the GPS track that would show the course change.
