If, a handful of years into the future, the number of undocumented immigrants in the United States has fallen sharply or zeroed out, the president will deserve all the credit. Mexico’s president, that is.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, no stranger to the tough debate over the nation’s immigration laws, thinks recent legislation passed by Mexico’s Congress, a major priority of President Enrique Pena Nieto, may have set in motion a reversal of the flow of undocumented immigrants northward. In a short time, Perry said in an interview Saturday, undocumented immigrants may be streaming back over the U.S.-Mexico border, headed for lucrative energy sector jobs back home.
“The landscape on immigration is fast changing,” Perry said. “My instinct is that immigration and immigration reform are going to be substantially less of a flashpoint than they have been in the last several years.”
The change, Perry predicted, will come as private investors begin taking stakes in Pemex, Mexico’s state-owned oil monopoly. In December, Mexico’s Senate ratified outlines of legislation that would allow private investment in the company, which could eventually lead to complete privatization. Outside analysts believe the new rules will eventually make Mexico one of the world’s largest oil producers.
The new jobs that result from the energy boom, Perry predicted, will attract immigrant labor that would otherwise come to the United States.

You have more faith in Perry than I.
Since you are knowledgeable about immigration..... What do you think of the 400,000 Obama regime deports each year? My contention is 95% of these are not real deportations. That they are Mexican who are apprehended at the border and sent back to Mexico the same day. After a quickie court proceeding they get gaveled though.
A real deportation being someone caught in NY, Chicago, Iowa etc and put on an airplane back home to China, Mexico, what have you

Mexico ships its poor here to maintain stability at home.
And the Guatamalans and El Salvadorans still come through Mexico to this nation, because they can’t stay in Mexico while Mexican gangs are happy to get money for moving them through.
It was depressing to see an article crowing how Texas Hispanics are more Republican than those in the rest of the country, how it is a boon to the party.
A closer look at the numbers says a third of Hispanics in the nation vote Republican, whereas the “better” situation in Texas is 46%. So the best we’ve done is still less than half.
Not a reason to open the borders and hope to convert them.

Rarely do we see state governors debating each other on national television, but that’s exactly what we got to see on CNN’s State of the Union recently.
Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy, a noted anti-gunner and a big reason CT passed such strict gun control laws last year was asked by CNN’s Candy Crowley if he thought gun laws in other states undermined CT’s ability to regulate guns with their strict laws. Malloy said,
I think we have a federal problem in the sense that we are rejecting the idea that we should have tighter controls on who has a gun. Universal background checks would make everyone safer in their states and in mine. It is a starting point. We should not be assigning or allowing folks who have mental health challenges currently to acquire guns.
We should not have a system that allows people who have extensive criminal records to get around –
When Crowley asked the other governor’s present if they agreed with Malloy, Texas Governor Rick Perry was the first to speak up,
Certainly not – the Second Amendment pretty much is a good amendment. And we support it in the state of Texas. The restrictions that you’ve seen states like Connecticut – when you think about the northeast, that was the Silicon Valley, if you will, of gun manufacturing. And you’re seeing those manufacturers leaving the northeast because of the taxation, the regulations, and just the attitude towards manufacturers of weapons.
As a matter of fact, Governor Bentley, was announced on Monday, Remington is moving 2,000 jobs being created there in Huntsville. Governor Haslam in Tennessee welcomed Beretta into his state. We invited Magpool into Texas. So, you’re seeing a shift of these manufacturers out of states that don’t want them there. And I think that is an appropriate move and an appropriate conversation for us to have.
And you’re absolutely right about the Tenth Amendment in the states. I know these governors will make decisions that are best for their citizens. Now, we compete against each other and that’s good.
That is exactly what is happening.
Obama should actually be deporting more people because state and local police are checking more of them during arrests.
I think Rick Perry is a few years too late on self deport rather than rewarding illegals.
The unemployment rate in Mexico is already lower than the USA’s unemployment rate. Last I checked the Mexican unemployment rate was 5%. So how low does it have to go to reverse the flow of illegals?
