There have been times when the CNN host Piers Morgan didnt seem to like America very much and American audiences have been more than willing to return the favor. Three years after taking over for Larry King, Mr. Morgan has seen the ratings for Piers Morgan Live hit some new lows, drawing a fraction of viewers compared with competitors at Fox News and MSNBC.
Its been an unhappy collision between a British television personality who refuses to assimilate the only football he cares about is round and his lectures on guns were rife with contempt and a CNN audience that is intrinsically provincial. After all, the people who tune into a cable news network are, by their nature, deeply interested in America.
CNNs president, Jeffrey Zucker, has other problems, but none bigger than Mr. Morgan and his plum 9 p.m. time slot. Mr. Morgan said last week that he and Mr. Zucker had been talking about the shows failure to connect and had decided to pull the plug, probably in March.
Crossing an ocean for a replacement for Larry King, who had ratings problems of his own near the end, was probably not a great idea to begin with. For a cable news station like CNN, major stories are like oxygen. When something important or scary happens in America, many of us have an immediate reflex to turn on CNN. When I find Mr. Morgan telling me what it all means, I have a similar reflex to dismiss what he is saying. It is difficult for him to speak credibly on significant American events because, after all, he just got here.

That prick is still on the air? Who knew?
Look like the Red Coat is head back home to his bubble and squeak
it must be that the UK is about to identify him allegedly...and even CNN cant ignore this foul mouthed anti American Obama loving slimeball
Alimentary, my dear Watson. Wreckedhim, Mr Holmes.
If a TV show was aired that no one watched, how can one be sure if it was even broadcast?
Gee! I kinda liked it! But then, I like stench.
His anti-Americanism would fit right in over at MSNBC.
Will he be arrested if he goes home?
The excerpt goes out of its way to dance around the real reasons for the demise of the Piers Morgan show.
1. “This is CNN (and these are our viewers - all four of them)”.
2. I believe his ratings had a pulse until he thought it would be a good idea to turn his dopey little program into the “I Hate Guns Hour”.
But at least Piers is freed from his job! He can now pursue his artistic goals.
Goodbye and good riddance, Mr. Morgan. And don’t let the door hit you in the backside on your way out.
He can always open a “fish and chips” shop.
On to Australia! He’s going to run out of English-speaking countries eventually. Maybe he should learn pidgin or Swahili?
I’m surprised that PMSNBC hasn’t snapped him up.
Pretty much says it all!
Both of his fans will be deeply saddened.
I can’t say I’ll miss him, though I’ve only seen about 5 minutes worth of his air time.
That statement is totally delusional....but then again it's the NYT.
The fool needs to get in touch with his inner self, I think becoming a hobo would help with that.
