Is polygamy the cause of Muslim violence?
Human Events ^ | February 18, 2014 | William Tucker

Syria is submerged in civil war. The Sunni and the Shi’ia of Iraq are renewing their 1300-year-old conflict. Libyan rebels have shut down the nation’s oil industry. Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has been suppressed and is resorting to terrorism. Pakistan is a cauldron of violence and assassinations. In short, the Muslim world, as usual, is at war with itself.

This is not a contemporary phenomenon. Islam has been attacking its neighbors ever since the Prophet Mohammed received the Koran from the Angel Gabriel in the 7th century. Within 50 years of his death, Muslim armies had conquered the known world from Spain to Afghanistan. The Moguls invaded India, setting off a conflict that persists today. The Ottoman Empire besieged Europe for hundreds of years before its collapse in the 20th century. As historian Samuel Huntington has written, Islam has always had “bloody borders.”

Is there any explanation for this? Is it temperament or history? Is it the inevitable fight over scarce resources? Or, as Muslim cultures would insist, is it because Islam has always been surrounded by hostile neighbors?

In my book, Marriage and Civilization, I offer a novel explanation as to why Islam has always been at war with itself and others. It is because Islam it is the only major religious culture that embraces polygamy.

Polygamy? What does that have to do with anything? Am I suggesting that because some minor sheik outside Baghdad takes two wives, two young Muslim brothers in Massachusetts feel compelled to blow up the Boston Marathon?

Well, yes. In any human society there are approximately the same number of men and women. Under monogamy, which limits each man to one wife, everyone gets a fair chance to marry. When powerful and successful men are allowed to take more than one wife, however, as they are in a polygamous society, this creates a pool of unsuccessful men at the bottom of society who are constantly in conflict with the system.

The history of Islam has been one continuous story of rebel groups off in the desert and deciding that the religion being practiced by the authorities and their harems back in the cities is not the “true Islam.” They come crashing back upon the palaces, overthrowing the leaders (no Ottoman Sultan ever died of natural causes) and establishing a new regime that is just like the old one, where powerful are allowed to take multiple wives.

The Prophet Muhammad had a novel solution to this problem. Go and conquer neighboring societies and requisition their women. If you die in the process, the reward will be even greater – 72 virgins waiting for you in heaven! “Jihad” has been a clever and effective way of redirecting the hostilities of the “bachelor herd” that polygamy inevitably produces.

The fruits of polygamy are visible all over the Middle East. Because women are always in short supply, families can charge a “bride price” to any man who wants to marry their daughter. Because daughters are now worth money, they must be veiled and sequestered so they don’t run off with some callow youth. Older men desperate for wives push down into younger and younger cohorts of the population. Marriages between 35-year-old men and 13-year-old girls become common. (Muhammad’s last wife was age six.)

But the main product of polygamy is a population of angry young men who are ripe recruits for terrorism. The Koran supposedly limits a man to four wives but in countries where there are vast disparities of wealth this is routinely violated. Osama bin Laden’s father, a successful Saudi businessman, had 22 wives and 54 children. The unbalance between unmarried men and the available women in Saudi Arabia is the highest in the world. Is it any wonder that 15 of the 19 September 11th hijackers were Saudi nationals?

Ann Coulter once suggested that we would cure Muslim violence by converting the Islamic world to Christianity. This is not as far-fetched as it sounds. Christianity’s long enforcement of monogamous marriage has obviously played a critical role in establishing the more peaceful civilization of the West. The same can be said for China and India, where the vast majority adhere to monogamy. None of these cultures is plagued with the endless internal violence and outward aggression of Islam.

Converting the Muslim world to Christianity may be out of the question, but persuading it to give up polygamy on the grounds that it creates an inherently unstable society is a task that the rest of the world might be willing to undertake.

There are many other parallels between Mormonism and Islam: the mysterious revelation by an “angel” of sacred texts which no one can find, the blood oath, missionary pilgrimage, etc.

Golly! I wonder WHY???

“I Will Be a Second Mohammed”

In the heat of the Missouri “Mormon War” of 1838, Joseph Smith made the following claim, “I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Alcoran [Koran] or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us—‘Joseph Smith or the Sword!’ ”[1]

It is most interesting that a self-proclaimed Christian prophet would liken himself to Mohammed, the founder of Islam. His own comparison invites us to take a closer look as well. And when we do, we find some striking—and troubling—parallels. Consider the following.

  • Mohammed and Joseph Smith both had humble beginnings. Neither had formal religious connections or upbringing, and both were relatively uneducated. Both founded new religions by creating their own scriptures. In fact, followers of both prophets claim these scriptures are miracles since their authors were the most simple and uneducated of men.[2]

  • Both prophets claim of having angel visitations, and of receiving divine revelation to restore pure religion to the earth again. Mohammed was told that both Jews and Christians had long since corrupted their scriptures and religion. In like manner, Joseph Smith was told that all of Christianity had become corrupt, and that consequently the Bible itself was no longer reliable. In both cases, this corruption required a complete restoration of both scripture and religion. Nothing which preceded either prophet could be relied upon any longer. Both prophets claim they were used of God to restore eternal truths which once existed on earth, but had been lost due to human corruption.

  • Both prophets created new scripture which borrowed heavily from the Bible, but with a substantially new “spin.” In his Koran, Mohammed appropriates a number of Biblical themes and characters—but he changes the complete sense of many passages, claiming to “correct” the Bible. In so doing he changes many doctrines, introducing his own in their place. In like manner, Joseph Smith created the Book of Mormon, much of which is plagiarized directly from the King James Bible. Interestingly, the Book of Mormon claims that this same Bible has been substantially corrupted and is therefore unreliable. In addition, Joseph Smith went so far as to actually create his own version of the Bible itself, the “Inspired Version,” in which he both adds and deletes significant portions of text, claiming he is “correcting” it. In so doing he also changes many doctrines, introducing his own in their place.

  • As a part of their new scriptural “spin,” both prophets saw themselves as prophesied in scripture, and both saw themselves as a continuation of a long line of Biblical prophets. Mohammed saw himself as a continuation of the ministry of Moses and Jesus. Joseph Smith saw himself as a successor to Enoch, Melchizedek, Joseph and Moses. Joseph Smith actually wrote himself into his own version of the Bible—by name.

  • Both prophets held up their own scripture as superior to the Bible. Mohammed claimed that the Koran was a perfect copy of the original which was in heaven. The Koran is therefore held to be absolutely perfect, far superior to the Bible and superceding it. In like manner, Joseph Smith also made the following claim. “I told the Brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding its precepts, than by any other book.”[3]

  • Despite their claim that the Bible was corrupt, both prophets admonished their followers to adhere to its teachings. An obvious contradiction, this led to selective acceptance of some portions and wholesale rejection of others. As a result, the Bible is accepted by both groups of followers only to the extent that it agrees with their prophet’s own superior revelation.

  • Both Mohammed and Joseph Smith taught that true salvation was to be found only in their respective religions. Those who would not accept their message were considered “infidels,” pagans or Gentiles. In so doing, both prophets became the enemy of genuine Christianity, and have led many people away from the Christ of the Bible.

  • Both prophets encountered fierce opposition to their new religions and had to flee from town to town because of threats on their lives. Both retaliated to this opposition by forming their own militias. Both ultimately set up their own towns as model societies.

  • Both Mohammed and Joseph Smith left unclear instructions about their successors. The majority of Mohammed’s followers, Sunni Muslims, believe they were to elect their new leader, whereas the minority, Shiite Muslims, look to Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib, whom they consider Divinely appointed, as the rightful successor to Muhammad, and the first imam. (Ali was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad). Similarly, the majority of Joseph Smith's followers, Mormons, believed their next prophet should have been the existing leader of their quorum of twelve apostles, whereas the minority, RLDS, believed Joseph Smith's own son should have been their next prophet. Differences on this issue, and many others, have created substantial tension between these rival groups of each prophet.

  • Mohammed taught that Jesus was just another of a long line of human prophets, of which he was the last. He taught that he was superior to Christ and superceded Him. In comparison, Joseph Smith also made the following claim.

“I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him, but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.”[4] In light of these parallels, perhaps Joseph Smith's claim to be a second Mohammed unwittingly became his most genuine prophecy of all.

[1] Joseph Smith made this statement at the conclusion of a speech in the public square at Far West, Missouri on October 14, 1838. This particular quote is documented in Fawn M. Brodie, No Man Knows My History, second edition, (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971), p. 230–231. Fawn Brodie’s footnote regarding this speech contains valuable information, and follows. “Except where noted, all the details of this chapter [16] are taken from the History of the [Mormon] Church. This speech, however, was not recorded there, and the report given here is based upon the accounts of seven men. See the affidavits of T.B. Marsh, Orson Hyde, George M. Hinkle, John Corrill, W.W. Phelps, Samson Avard, and Reed Peck in Correspondence, Orders, etc., pp. 57–9, 97–129. The Marsh and Hyde account, which was made on October 24, is particularly important. Part of it was reproduced in History of the [Mormon] Church, Vol. III, p. 167. See also the Peck manuscript, p. 80. Joseph himself barely mentioned the speech in his history; see Vol. III, p. 162.”

Donald Trump or Michael Bloomberge could probably each have 22 wives but that wouldn’t impact the broader society.

I think they could afford that many over their lifetimes, (assuming the correct pre-nups) but they can't legally have more than one at a time. And honestly, I'd don't know how anyone could deal with more than one at a time. ;~))

I know that polygamy is premitted by Islam, but I wonder how prevalent it really is. Donald Trump or Michael Bloomberge could probably each have 22 wives but that wouldn’t impact the broader society.

If only 10% of the men practice polygamy, and each takes four wives, then 10% of the men have monopolized 40% of the women, and 30% of the men have no hope of marriage and a normal family life. That's a simplified example and one can play with the numbers, but I do think this accounts for much of the social energy underlying jihad.

Polygamy was a natural adaptation in tribal societies dominated by constant feuding, banditry, and war. High mortality among the young men creates large numbers of widowed or never-married young women. Polygamy settles that problem. Most of the world has moved on. The Arabs are still stuck in a pre-modern rut.

what is the proximate cause of the Mormons to be living in Utah in the first place.
_____________________________________

In Feb 1844 Joey Smith said he wanted to take the Mormons to Oregon or Texas or Mexico..

Too many Christians were moving in the Nauvoo IL area for his liking..

too many people who considered Smith the indecent rapist, murderer and thief that he was..

He wanted to move further away from civilization so he could practice his crimes of polygamy and murder and theft and cattle rustling and sedition against the United States government with out getting caught..

But he got himself killed in a jail break a few months later in June 1844 and Brigham Young took over as theocratic dictator of the Mormons...

Young stayed in Nauvoo for a time and finished the temple there,... then after selling the building to the Catholics, Young moved his followers to the Utah Territory just as Smith had wanted...

In 1847 Utah was made up of Eastern CA, Idaho, SW Wyoming so it covered a great deal of territory..

There in the Great Salt Lake region with its natural mountain border stockade walls Young was able to guard his secrets and polygamous colony and war against the United States government and entrapped any “gentile” (Christian in his snare and get rid of any rebellious Mormons..

In the next 30 years until his death in 1877 Young ordered the murder of at least 1,000 mostly innocent people..

Bodies of men women and children were discovered in the back yards of SLC for years after ...

Brigham Young was a dangerous deluded animal and his followers were as bad or nearly as bad..

Young ordered the crazed Porter Rockwell to assassinate Governor Boggs of MO and Boggs was shot in the throat in an ambush at his home and nearly died...

One of the dumb modern day excuses for polygamy in Utah was that there were many more females than males...

no there were not...

Like other western areas the men far out numbered the women...and as all the leaders of the Mormons had multiple wives by order of Young most of the women was the “wife” of a polygamist..

if a man arrived from Europe with only one wife he was ordered to take another...usually someones 14 yo daughter..

Joey Smith had at least 40 wives when he died in 1844 and Brigham Young had about 55 and 80 children...

September Morn was a movie based on the true story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, September 11 1857...the first 9/11 terrorist attack on American citizens by crazed religious fanatics at war against the United States government...the Mormons...

Its a great depiction of the slaughter of a wagon train load of Americans on their way to California, 120+ unarmed men, women, children and babes-in-arms, a slaughter ordered by the blood thirsty tyrant, Brigham Young..

Young stole the wagon train’s cattle, horses and the clothes off the dead and left the bodies unburied on the praire for about 2 years...

young also kidnapped several young children and illegally adopted them out to Mormon families who ill treated them..

It took the United States government 2 years to get the children back from Brigham Young...Young demanded a ransom of $10,000 be paid by the United States government before he would return them..

The movie wasn’t shown near me at the time it first came out so I have hunted for it online ever since...

apparently several people have uploaded it to YouTube over the years, only to have it sabotaged by Mormons and deleted..

Every few months I would get close to where the movie had been but nada..the Mormons were able somehow to deny me my 1st Amendment rights and ban the movie because it exposed their ugly past history..

Today I just happened to try again and their it was first a 45 minute piece of the main bits sliced together and that led to the actual full movie..

Now is it because the Mormons have bigger fish to fry right now with the charges of criminal financial fraud against Tommy Monson that they let a movie with so many of the call to terrorism and blood letting sayings of their leaders Joseph Smith and Brigham Young???

They are scared because they are exposed as covering up and fraud so they actually have allowed this movie to go unmolested and unprosecuted and I was able to download it without either it or me being a target and victim of the so called blood atonement...

anyhoo enjoy but cry in horror and the waste of life of all those innocent children murdered and their unarmed parents..

heres September Dawn..

Genesis 16:11-12
New International Version (NIV)

11 The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”

ANSWER

Critics have long had difficulty reconciling their concept of Joseph as a promiscuous womanizer with the fact that the only recorded children of the prophet are those that he had with Emma. Science is now shedding new light on this issue as DNA research has so far eliminated a number of possibilities that had long been rumored to be descendants of Joseph Smith.   http://en.fairmormon.org/Joseph_Smith/Polygamy/Children_of_polygamous_marriages

Yup, FACTS do have a nasty way of showing the MORMON god's promises to be false!!!

D&C 132:55

But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.

Emma did NOT 'abide' and Joseph was NOT 'blessed'.

MORMONism is a lying sham!!!

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without actually accepting it

It is the MARK of a TBM to accept Mormonism while being able to block out ALL of the facts that a rational person would consider WAY overwhelming evidence to it's falseness.
