Laws are more than just symbolic gestures. Connecticut's General Assembly must come to grips with this truth before its recent effort to save lives ends up destroying them.
State law enforcement officials are now in the difficult position of dealing with one of the most widely flouted laws since the end of the 55 miles-per-hour speed limit and Prohibition. If its really serious, the state will have to find space to imprison 300,000 residents for the next five years.
The first article of the Connecticut Constitution couldnt be more clear. Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state, it says.
Busybodies at the Capitol in Hartford decided that every doesnt really mean every, and it banned the semi-automatic rifles that would be most useful in defense of the state. As of Jan. 1, owners of arms that have a menacing appearance had to submit registration paperwork to the state.
Only about 50,000 did so. Theres no way to know how many assault rifles remain unregistered, but the best guess is that the new gun safety law instantly created 300,000 felons.
Eager to exploit the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, easily frightened lawmakers rushed to add yet more hurdles to gun ownership in the state. Those wishing to possess a pistol already had to pay fees, take tests and fill out paperwork to obtain a firearms-purchase permit.
Separate permission from the state was required just to buy ammunition in a process that must be repeated every five years. Bearing arms outside the home requires another permit that the state may, or may not, issue at its discretion...

Apparently not, since so many in Connecticut are flouting this one.
That having been said, the people of Connecticut voted for the overbearing jerks who came up with that garbage. Let them stew in their own pot for awhile. Maybe they'll think twice before just voting ticket and pulling the lever during their next election cycle.
I just hope the citizens of Connecticut wake up and dump the Marxists in Hartford, starting with Mallory. Ella Gras so, who I knew personally is rolling over in her grave with these Libs. No, Ella was no conservative, but she wasto the right of Mallory (and to the right of Rell).
“I think at this point a mention of the 1986 gun control act might be appropriate.”
Two interesting facts to add:
1. the act also contained a provision banning the ownership of any fully automatic firearms not registered by May 19, 1986. That provision was slipped into the legislation as an 11th hour amendment by Rep. William J. Hughes, a New Jersey Democrat.
2. President Ronald Reagan signed it into law on May 19, 1986.
It's not that complicated. Imagine you're an infantryman in a defensive position. The first thing to understand is the difference between cover and concealment. Cover will protect you from direct fire. Concealment won't. Overhead cover can protect you from indirect fire.
It’s not just the 300k in Connecticut that should be given consideration. Almost one-tenth the population of the state as cited declined their invitation. They have extended support and should call upon that strength for staging purposes, rather than waiting for the fight coming to their individual doorstep.
Good point.
We'll have to wait and see where this goes

...the consent of the governed.
Trying to decide between the Democrat or Progressive name is a waste of time. They call themselves these names because if they spoke truthfully and called themselves Communists they would lose a ton of elections. Course in a few troublesome states they would cheer in the streets saying, The revolution is here!
You are right about them thinking Progressives will protect them, but what they really want is a daddy that will tell them what to do. Life is way to complicated for these zombies. I hope when hunting season opens there is no bag limit....on geese I meant to say.
He's our leader so we must follow his example.

This is likely the cause of the continued social injustices there.
I have a couple of friends in CT that are now felons because of this law
I told them both that if they get in a sticky situation because of it, to call me and I’ll bring eveyone and everything I can to help defend them from this illegal law.
And no, I don’t mean a suitcase full of cash and a bevy of lawyers...
Amen.
more accurate:
...unless they are laws liberals don’t like.
I am surprised they think that 300,000 Nutmeggers own assault rifles. I think some lefty pulled that number out of his a$$ to scare the fellow citizens into thinking they live amongst that many gun nuts. That’s why they needed to pass the law in the first place. Doesn’t add up for such a deep blue state.
