Of all the electoral maneuvers lately Huckabee heading to Iowa, Santorum huddling with advisors, Allen West refusing to rule anything out, and even Joe Scarborough visiting New Hampshire this is the most interesting.
Is there room for Perry this time, though?
Perry, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, will be in Des Moines and Davenport on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.
He will be sitting down with business leaders to discuss a wide range of issues, according to Bob Haus, an adviser in the state.
He also will be taping an episode of Iowa Press, Iowa Public Televisions weekly public affairs program, Haus said.
Perry intends to discuss his efforts with Americans for Economic Freedom, a group he formed last year that is aimed at promoting state policies that lead to economic expansion and job creation.
He jumped in last time because the field sorely needed a credible conservative alternative to Romney. Didnt work out. He might jump in this time because the field sorely needs a credible conservative alternative to Rand Paul? Ted Cruz? Rubio? At least one of those guys is definitely running, and maybe more than one. If none of them are sufficiently socially conservative for you, Santorum and maybe even Huckabee will probably end up running too. The argument for Perry, I suppose, is that hes the only one potential tea-party champion with executive experience, but I cant believe thatll put him over the top when it didnt help him last time. (Yeah, Romney had a few years of experience as a governor too but he ran on his business record, not his stewardship of Massachusetts.) Besides, Paul, Rubio, and Cruz have all been in the thick of major policy debates over the past year. If youre looking for a candidate to vindicate your principles, why look past those three to a guy whos retiring as governor after flaming out in 2012?
Maybe hes banking on the Republican next in line effect to propel him. In theory, as the 2012 runner-up, Santorums the next in line, but no one seriously thinks hes going to be the nominee. Paul Ryan would become next in line if he runs, but most people think he wont. Perry could be calculating that hes well positioned to fill that vacuum; hes the next full-spectrum conservative candidate in line, at least. And there is, I guess, a way for him to cobble together a coalition among righties who are disaffected with their other options. Some may find Rand Pauls libertarian leanings suspicious, especially on social issues; others may rule out Rubio for carrying too much water on amnesty, even though Perry himself is moderate on immigration. Others may want a social con as nominee but not someone whose chief political identity is as a social conservative a la Santorum or Huckabee. If Cruz runs, though, I think hed cannibalize most of Perrys support, Perrys executive pedigree notwithstanding. Which, maybe, explains Perrys presence in Iowa now. No reason not to keep his options open just in case Cruz decides not to run. Which, I think, is what hell end up deciding.
what does it matter when we are the last in line

Well the Treason party will pick Hitlery. The RINO party will pick Marco Rubio and the Tea party picks Ted Cruz.
We need an arch conservative with a 2x4.
NO!!!
I am far too heartless to support Perry for President
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
I am not interested in liberals that have no appreciation for what it means to be TeaParty .... NO taxation/mandates without representation. And Rick Perry had NO problem signing off on a tax increase without representation.
This also applies to that other Rick that ran in 2012. Let these politicians practice their 'social justice' notions in their own households, instead of using US to stuff their own households.
He had his chance.
Gov. PERRY sounds viable to me.
It’s gonna be Walker/Cruz. You can tell by the flak incoming.
This makes Cruz President of the Senate.
These two Wrecking-ball men are going to de-lice, fumigate, send packing every commie liberal that zero has installed.
They will probably be far more charitable in renditioning the lefties then I would be.
bump
And Perry will be on the team, directing the dis-patching, that’s his gift. Destroying enemies of the state.
If he runs he won’t win because he cannot speak in front of a group without his speech freezing. He has never been able to find the right words to make a sensible paragraph of speaking and choosing the wrong word as president, can hurt us with foreign governments as they need to know concrete words with the right meaning from him and the press will have a field day with those wrong words that make awkward sentences.
Perry supporters will say I’m wrong just as they did the last time, but I’ve been there along with others who know this. He has a set Texas spiel he knows, but if asked questions, he cannot compose the right words together. He has been a conservative governor, don’t have a problem with him, I’ve spent a whole day with his mom and in close quarters with him, but he cannot win a presidential race no matter if I like him.
He’ll do what the Bilderberg Group tells him.
NO!
Perry lost major support in 2011 when, during a debate, he revealed that he was in favor of Amnesty for Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico.
Since that time, the killings , theft and other violence caused by these Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico has gotten much worse here in TEXAS.
This is the next fellows main consideration, otherwise we are just pissin in the wind.
All at the hands of the Feds.
