There would not be a United States of America today if George Washington had followed the tactics being urged by people like Senator Ted Cruz and his supporters.

Boot Camp and training is suppose to weed out those unfit for combat. Unfortunately there is no similar weeding out process in politics so we often elect people lacking in either wisdom or courage and more that a few that are simply outright frauds.

What Thomas Sowell does not get (giving him the benefit of the doubt) is that Cruz knew the battle would be lost but would expose for all to see who was just talking that talk and who was willing to stand and fight. You are never going to win a war if your ranks are full of cowards and traitors. Which is why I called Cruz’s tactics brilliant. Now we know who not to send back to the Congress. Job well done Senator Cruz.

Now about that Thomas Sowell “not getting it” thing. Sowell is a very bright guy, smarter and more knowledgeable than I. So if I can figure things out surely he can too. One thing I do know is that Cruz scare the crab out of the professional elites. Anyone attacking Cruz is suspect of being an elite or employed by one. I think Thomas Sowell might have just outed himself.

"Even a mind as great as Sowell’s sometimes gets it wrong."

This is a mystery. I have two of Dr. Sowell's books and have admired him for many years. My guess is he's being blackmailed. How would any of us react if a beloved grandchild were threatened? Maybe the IRS has paid him a visit. I just can't believe these are his own beliefs. He's being terribly pressured by somebody, so let's just give him credit for his past brilliant work and forget it.

Trenton was a Hail Mary pass and Washington literally had his back to the wall. If he didn't post a victory before the end of the year, the war was over. Most of the troops' enlistments were due to expire in about two weeks and without a military victory, congress was not going to pony up the money to pay for reenlistments. Congress would have sued for peace and Georhe Washington would have been drawn and quartered on the lawn of the Tower of London with George III presiding. It was a do or die mission.

The victory provided impetus for the war to continue. Although it did little to destroy the British presence, it did much to embolden the Americans in their continued fight. In that respect, it was a highly symbolic victory.

He’s awfully hard on Cruz in that article. Its basic message is “everyone should go along to get along, and Ted Cruz is doing so.”

Pretty shallow for Thomas Sowell, but he’s Rodney King this week. Someone slipped vodka in his tea. Has he been visiting the Olympics?

There is no doubt that Trenton was a symbolic victory, but at the same time it was a victory. It did align with Washington’s strategy throughout the war not to engage in battles unless he had advantage, but that isn’t really all that unusual for any commander.

The bottom line, and Thomas Sowell and most others miss this, is that God was on the side of those revolutionaries.

If I had to pick between Cruz and the abortionist, anti-life forces, and say which side God was on, I’d pick Cruz.

So, as the 3 Hebrew children said in Daniel 3, “”O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

If God is with us, who then can be against us?

FR cult of personality

Its very disheartening to see their diatribes.

Soon, no one will pass their tests. (but at least they'll be able to wallow in their martyrdom)

Yep. Sowell is sounding like the Loyalist (later Tories) of the time. Still not to late for him to move to Canada.

I’m actually surprised. Maybe he’s getting soft in his old age. I normally enjoy and respect his views.

In the short term the Republicans lost.

By who's standard? By whos' view? Left wing polls of left wing idiots that are worded to give them the results they want?

The analogies he has used in the last three days are so off the mark, I have to assume that Sowell has never really studied history or politics.

I don't doubt Sowell's memory of history or politics, or of economics. Several Trillion Dollars in stolen treasure will buy a whole lot of treason.

Sowell and Williams both sold out a few years ago to the Global Free Traitor scams, when any freshman economics student could see that it was a scam designed to destroy every economy it touched. And it did. And it continues to today.

LOL, I love the line “another gov’t shutdown could doom their chances of winning the Senate in 2014”.

Really? Is he, and the political elite, really stuck in the beltway mentality that bad?

Yeah, I can see it now...voters in the privacy of the voting booth thinking “okay, I really like this conservative Republican, but they shut down the government twice so must be bad...”

Give me a break. I’ll bet “government shutdown” is WAY down the list of issues voters care about.

I don’t understand these attacks on Cruz by Sowell at all.

I agree with Sowell 99% of the time. But, being from Texas, I would remind him of the Alamo, which Texas lost but it helped win overall Indepedence from Mexico.

I don’t understand these attacks on Cruz by Sowell at all.

They make no sense based on my longstanding high regard for Mr Sowell. He has always been so insightful, and his recent articles have all the earmarks of a political attack on Senator Cruz.

After the 3rd article, I can only conclude that Mr Sowell sees himself as an opponent of Senator Cruz. Nothing else makes sense.

Yes. He's 83, but whether that is a factor, I don't know. These articles seem unlike him.

If that 20% includes amnesty then he is a 100% traitor.

I agree with that. There are certain basic principles that can't be compromised. Some of the other stuff we can sort out later.

Sowell is not a man to take lightly... I haven’t read this series... yet. But whatever Sowell’s saying, it’s worth considering.

I have read the three hit pieces on Cruz and he is so far off base he is in another ballpark.
